Rumors and conspiracy theories claiming the cheating scandal involving Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson is fake are completely untrue. While some outlets and random people on social media have been quick to accuse the couple and her family of manufacturing a publicity stunt, such claims are easily disproven. They’re also distasteful. Allow Gossip Cop to explain.
Earlier this week, photos and videos emerged of Thompson cheating on Kardashian during her pregnancy. The revelations surfaced near the reality star’s due date, and she ended up giving birth on Thursday. Fortunately, the baby girl, whose name has yet to be announced, is healthy. Neither Kardashian nor Thompson have commented on their child’s arrival or about his infidelity. Reps for both sides have not commented, either.
But speculation has been running rampant that the cheating scandal was concocted for the Kardashians to gain attention and increase ratings for “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” The proof to substantiate such theories is virtually nonexistent. Mainly, these rumors hinge on two points: People seem to view Kardashian’s mother, Kris Jenner, as some kind of media mastermind who would do anything when it comes to PR, and the cheating was uncovered just before Kardashian was due to give birth. As seen in an absurd number of messages on social media, it’s being alleged that Jenner and her family purposefully orchestrated the controversy and timed it to break around the time of Kardashian’s delivery.
This thinking is flawed. As skilled as the clan may be at building and promoting their business empire, which includes not just “KUWTK” but various other enterprises, the notion that Jenner would actively try to twist the birth of her granddaughter into something negative is preposterous. Critics tend to forget these are real people and that there are actual health matters involved. In fact, Kardashian explained earlier this year why TMZ leaking the news of her pregnancy last fall was actually detrimental to her.
Until the website broke the news last September, she had been intending to keep the pregnancy under wraps until she was safely out of her first trimester. Had she actually wanted to capitalize on her pregnancy for publicity, surely she wouldn’t have waited until late December to finally confirm she was expecting. Instead, she was understandably focused on putting her and her baby’s needs first. That makes the claim that she would now purposefully try to overshadow her daughter’s birth and even put her health in jeopardy by teaming up with TMZ, the same site she blasted for leaking her pregnancy in the first place, to stage a cheating scandal not just unlikely but also insane.
As for the timing of Thompson’s infidelity going public, that’s no smoking gun, either. Often cases of affairs or sexual harassment or sexual assault aren’t revealed until specific times to inflict maximum embarrassment, not coverage. These instances even sometimes involve extortion: “I will release this illicit material at the worst time for you until you do such-and-such.” It’s simply not surprising or suspicious that Thompson’s behavior would be revealed at this juncture, even if it had been going on for months.
Additionally, if the goal was simply publicity for the Kardashians, surely just one or two paramours for such a scheme would do. But Thompson has now been linked to a fifth woman. He has nothing to gain from all of this humiliation, and Kardashian’s birth would’ve received extensive media attention across the globe even if all of this never came to light. This “all for publicity” theory lacks logic, to say the least.
Furthermore, Kardashian didn’t even have E! cameras filming her in Cleveland as the scandal unfolded this week, and it hasn’t yet been determined if footage captured of other family members discussing the situation in Los Angeles will be used. It should also be noted that Lisa Stanley, a L.A. radio host who is said to be friends with Jenner, is on record slamming rumors that this was all planned by the momager and explaining why that’s implausible. “That is such [expletive],” Stanley said during a radio spot. She went on, “Even Kris has her line she draws in the sand and, by the way, she’s not going to plan something against her child, who’s not only been through hell and back with Lamar Odom, that cheating scumbag, but now she’s dealing with this guy.”
All of this reminds Gossip Cop of what Kim Kardashian unfortunately faced after her Paris robbery in 2016. Following the crime, tabloids like Star and blogs like RadarOnline suggested it was all a “hoax,” cooked up by the family for attention. Such claims were both offensive and patently untrue. The specific circumstances now may be different, but the uneducated response from the public and the gossip media is disturbingly similar.
Gossip Cop agrees with those that have pointed out that regardless of what you think of the Kardashians, these publicity stunt rumors are disgusting. But as outlined here, they also don’t stand up to scrutiny.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
