It's been roughly a month since Tristan Thompson was caught cheating on Khloe Kardashian. As the scandal has unfolded, tabloids and gossip blogs have been in overdrive spreading a lot of misinformation. Here Gossip Cop separates fact from fiction.
FICTION: Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian responded to Tristan Thompson's cheating scandal on social media, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: In transparent clickbait, the site tried to dupe readers into thinking Kardashian's sisters "took to social media to respond to the drama." In actuality, Kim and Kourtney's Twitter and Instagram posts had nothing to do with Thompson whatsoever. Kim didn't address the situation until an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" a few weeks later, while Kourtney has still yet to comment publicly.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian was "heartbroken & alone" after giving birth to daughter True, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: The blog painted the new mom as devastated and abandoned after the delivery of her daughter. But Kardashian was not physically alone as mom Kris Jenner was in Cleveland, as was her best friend, Malika Haqq. Multiple outlets, such as People, also reported that, as far as the reality star's emotions went, she was "feeling nothing but happiness" and "consumed with love," rather than focusing on Thompson's infidelity.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian is "done" with Tristan Thompson, according to Life & Style.
FACT: After the birth of their child, the tabloid insisted she was ready to "kill" the basketball player and was "so [expletive] done" with their relationship and "so over him." Contradictorily, though, the magazine went on to write that it's "unclear where their relationship stands at this point." The truth was Kardashian was not "done" with or "over" Thompson. She was still working through the situation and, almost exactly a month later, they are still together.
FICTION: According to conspiracy theories, Khloe Kardashian and Tristan Thompson's cheating scandal is a fake publicity stunt.
FACT: These distasteful and easily disproven claims said the Kardashians orchestrated the situation for attention and ratings. Such theories, which Gossip Cop closely examined, lacked logic and evidence, and reminded us of when some tabloids and blogs alleged Kim Kardashian's robbery was a "hoax." That, too, was baseless, offensive and untrue. Though the circumstances are different now, the uneducated response from random sites and social media users is equally off-base.
FICTION: According to RadarOnline, Caitlyn Jenner is using Tristan Thompson's cheating scandal to reconcile with Khloe Kardashian.
FACT: The website alleged that amid an ongoing estrangement, Jenner was hoping Kardashian was so "hurt and vulnerable" following Thompson's infidelities that she'd welcome a reunion. To that end, it was said the former Olympian was sending her ex-stepdaughter flowers and notes, as well as "offering a shoulder to cry on." But a rep for Jenner confirmed to Gossip Cop that the story was fabricated.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian is marrying Tristan Thompson amid his cheating scandal, according to Heat.
FACT: In this tale, which was also picked up by NW, it was claimed Kardashian was "desperate to save face" and prove to the world that she could "change" Thompson by getting married. "She feels that if she got a ring on her finger, it would help show that she's the girl Tristan chose to marry," a source contended. But at the time this narrative was published two weeks ago, credible media reported that Kardashian wasn't even sure if she wanted to stay in the romance, let alone tie the knot.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian is urging Tristan Thompson to propose, according to In Touch.
FACT: Inspired by the aforementioned marriage stories, the tabloid similarly alleged Kardashian wanted Thompson to pop the question "or get lost." The piece had a number of red flags, which didn't stop HollywoodLife from regurgitating it. But as Gossip Cop had already reported, Kardashian was still undecided about her future with Thompson, and had no intention of rushing down the aisle with him.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian is "ditching" Tristan Thompson and moving home to Los Angeles, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: The online publication insisted Kardashian was "finally coming to her senses and starting to see the situation for what it is," leading her to decide to end the relationship. It was even said there was "nothing that Tristan can do or say now to change that." But that very same day, it was confirmed by People that Kardashian and Thompson were still living together and that there hadn't been any talk of a split. On the contrary, it was accurately reported by Us Weekly that they considered themselves "fully" back on. They were even seen out in public together.
FICTION: Khloe Kardashian is "leaning on" Lamar Odom for support after Tristan Thompson's cheating, according to Closer.
FACT: The tabloid maintained the reality star's ex-husband had become a "comfort" for her as she dealt with the scandal, to the point where they were spending "hours" on FaceTime and Kardashian was "craving the familiarity she had with Lamar." At this point, however, she had already recommitted to staying with Thompson, and the notion that she was spending her days talking with Odom while living in Thompson's home was laughable. It had previously been reported that Odom felt badly for his former spouse, but no trustworthy outlet ever said anything about him actually aiding her through this time.
FICTION: Tristan Thompson gave Khloe Kardashian a "list of demands" she had to agree to if she wanted him to stay with her, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: The site claimed the athlete had stipulations "in return for staying in Khloe's life in the long-term," and was refusing to take responsibility for his unfaithfulness. But as E! Online, which often serves as a de facto mouthpiece for the Kardashians, reported, it was she, not Thompson, who decided to give the relationship another chance and "set guidelines and boundaries for their new chapter." It was further revealed that he had made "promises" to Kardashian, not the other way around, to "repair the relationship."
Often when a topic takes over the celebrity news world, less scrupulous places care more about pretending to have insight than genuinely reporting facts. As demonstrated above, the last month has been filled with tabloids and websites claiming to have inside knowledge on Kardashian and Thompson's dynamic only to be proven wrong. Though the couple is working through their issues, Gossip Cop suspects the high interest in their relationship will continue. As such, we'll keep letting readers know what's real and what's untrue rumor as necessary.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
