Khloe Kardashian Jeff Van Gundy Curse

Khloe Kardashian has Jeff Van Gundy in her court. The former basketball coach defended Tristan Thompson’s girlfriend at the NBA Finals on Friday, ripping claims of a “Kardashian curse.” Watch the video below.

Kardashian has ridiculously been accused of having a bad effect on basketball players. After a broken marriage to Lamar Odom and a short-lived relationship with James Harden, the reality star began dating Thompson last year. Almost immediately, there was speculation as to how the romance would affect his game.

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ post-season run to the finals hasn’t quieted those concerns, but amplified them. The team went into Game 4 tonight down 3-0 in the championship series against the Golden State Warriors. Despite the Cavs’ successful season prior to this point, and regardless of Thompson being just one part of the puzzle, Kardashian has been getting much of the blame for the Cavaliers’ losses in the finals.

Despite the backlash against her, she still enthusiastically showed up to Quicken Loans Arena on Friday night to cheer on her boyfriend and his teammates in this do-or-die game. But there’s an unlikely person cheering her on, too. During his ABC commentary, Van Gundy said, “I’ve noticed a lot, in this series, the debate about why Tristan Thompson has not played well, and he hasn’t played well. But the debate about whether his significant other, Khloe Kardashian, and the Kardashian curse, is the reason, to me, is downright low-rent.”

As Kardashian was shown on-screen with sister Kourtney and Kourtney’s children, Van Gundy went on, “My thing is this: When LeBron James struggled in 2011 in those finals, did we say it was his significant other that caused him to not succeed? Or last year, with Steph Curry. Was it Steph Curry’s wife when he didn’t play up to standard?”

“No, this Kardashian shaming is because she’s an easy target,” he continued. “And I don’t know her or her family. But I do know this: She deserves an apology from anybody who participated in that type of debate.” For her part, though, Kardashian has not commented. Check out the video below.
