Kendall Jenner is not "insecure" over Kaia Gerber "catching up" in the modeling world. Gossip Cop can bust silly, false reports claiming otherwise. The two stars are friends and quite supportive of each other's careers.
But Life & Style is alleging that even though Jenner "befriended" Gerber when the teen model "first came on the scene," she's now "feeling seriously threatened" by Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber's daughter. "The more Kaia's star rises in the modeling world... the more insecure Kendall gets," a so-called "insider" is quoted as saying. This supposed source goes on to contend, "She views Kaia as her competition, so she doesn't really like her anymore."
The gossip magazine's alleged tipster asserts Jenner needs to "chill out" and "understand" that Gerber is "basically supermodel royalty," thanks to her famous runway-walking mom. But the purported snitch maintains the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star is "worried that Kaia will take work away from her," and is also "concerned" about her friendships with others in the industry potentially being affected. The "insider" tells the publication that Gerber is "getting super chummy" with Bella and Gigi Hadid, which is "shaking Kendall's confidence, too."
These claims have already spread to OK!, even though there are a few obvious flaws in them. The allegations give the impression that Gerber could be taking Jenner's place in modeling gigs, when the reality is there is more than enough opportunities for both of them. It's not as if Gerber can be on every single magazine cover or in every single fashion campaign. Publications need to vary the models featured on their covers and brands often enter into exclusive partnerships with models, limiting the work they can do with other companies.
For example, Jenner was not able to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show last year because of her contract with La Perla. So that made room for someone else to hit the runway. There are no shortage of jobs and no one person dominating every magazine and every campaign. It makes little sense then to contend Jenner is worried about losing out to Gerber, or anyone else for that matter.
Similarly, it's ridiculous to suggest that the Hadid sisters can't be friendly with both women. There's no limit on the amount of friendships people can have, and growing closer with one person doesn't mean ditching another. Jenner did joke a year ago about going "broke" when Gerber stars modeling full-time, but the comment was made out of love and support. In fact, the two have teamed up professionally on several projects, and have been seen hanging out together as well.
It's actually their growing friendship that led RadarOnline, an OK! sister outlet, to falsely allege last fall that Crawford was warning her daughter to stay away from Jenner. It's also notable that just this week, the site also peddled an untrue narrative about Jenner being jealous of her sister Kim Kardashian modeling. These tales seem designed to make Jenner appear not only insecure, but also unlikeable. They just don't match reality.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
