Is the “honeymoon over” for Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest? That’s what a tabloid is claiming. Gossip Cop investigated and can reveal what’s really going on with this feud report.
The questionable story appears in the new issue of Star, which contends that while Ripa said she was “thrilled” when Seacrest joined “Live” last May, “eight months later, the honeymoon is over.” A so-called “insider” is quoted as saying, “Ryan’s getting tired of her pushiness. He feels like she likes to make sure he knows that she’s the boss at ‘Live.'”
Though the gossip magazine gives no specific examples, it insists the “strain between Kelly and Ryan has started to show on air.” Alleges the supposed source, “Kelly regularly cuts him off when they’re doing celebrity interviews, and she frequently interrupts and talks over him. It’s becoming a pattern. You can even see it when you watch the show from home because friends of Ryan’s have noticed.”
“Kelly’s flexing her muscles, and it’s rubbing Ryan the wrong way,” continues the outlet’s purported tipster. “They’re supposed to be a team,” the alleged “insider” adds, but the publication asserts, “Sometimes Kelly acts like she’s in charge.” Well, even though Ripa and Seacrest are both executive producers on the series, it would make sense if she had seniority.
Also, “Live with Kelly and Ryan” is a talk show, emphasis on the talk. No matter who the co-hosts are and no matter which guests are there, there is going to be cross-talk and interruptions. That’s the case on every program of this nature and has nothing to do with Ripa trying to be a dominant force. It’s also notable that rather than co-hosting alone or with a fill-in on Monday when Seacrest was still on the West Coast due to the Golden Globes, she had him call in to appear with her via video satellite.
And then when he returned to the studio on Tuesday, Ripa gushed about having Seacrest back next to her. What’s more is that during a New York Times interview that was published exactly a month ago, Ripa said of Seacrest, “He’s the future of the franchise. He’s the future of ABC.” In other words, he has her full support, contrary to what this story suggests. A spokesperson for the show confirmed to Gossip Cop that the tabloid’s story is totally untrue and denies there’s any trouble brewing.
Tellingly, Life & Style has consistently been inaccurate in its reporting on the pair. Back in July, roughly six months ago and only a couple months after Seacrest joined the series, the magazine claimed he and Ripa were in a “nasty feud.” Then in September, the outlet ran a ridiculous cover story that alleged Seacrest and ABC executives wanted Kim Kardashian to replace Ripa. It was laughable nonsense. This is quite clearly more of the same.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
