“Live” co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest are not “obsessed” with beating Megyn Kelly’s “Today” show ratings, despite a sensationalized and inaccurate new report. Gossip Cop looked into the supposed morning show feud and we can exclusively set the record straight.
As Gossip Cop reported, Kelly kicked off her “Today” show debut Monday with an interview of the “Will & Grace” cast. The former Fox news hosts’s new morning talk show airs at the same time as “Live with Kelly and Ryan,” prompting RadarOnline to report that the ABC co-hosts are consumed with their competition, to the point where they’re not fully concentrating on their own show.
The repeatedly discredited site says Ripa “received constant updates” about Kelly’s first episode as it aired, despite broadcasting live herself. A so-called “source” tells the webloid, “Kelly is obsessed, and wants to know everything from what her competition wears to what her set looks like, and if her guests are funny.” The seemingly phony insider goes on to contend that Seacrest is persuading his A-list friends to boycott Kelly’s show, adding, “His connections can destroy Megyn.”
Although Seacrest and Ripa obviously want to be number one in their time slot, the webloid’s assertion they’re crazily “obsessed” with the competition and are scheming to take down Kelly’s show is completely exaggerated. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who exclusively assures us the “Live” co-hosts are focused on their own show and aren’t preoccupied with another network’s programming.
Unfortunately, RadarOnline has been spreading this bogus narrative about an alleged war between the morning shows for months. Gossip Cop previously called out the webloid for falsely claiming Seacrest set out to “destroy” Kelly. We also recently busted the site’s sister publication, the National Enquirer, for making up a story about Ripa and Kelly having an “explosive showdown.” “Live” and the third hour of “Today” might very well be competing for viewers, but these reports about a vicious ratings battle are completely blown out of proportion.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
