Kelly Ripa appeared to be holding back tears as she and Ryan Seacrest reacted to the Las Vegas shooting on Monday’s “Live.” Due to ongoing news coverage, the talk show did not air in all markets, but the program’s official Instagram account shared edited footage of their comments.

Ripa, who actually turns 47 today, solemnly told the audience, “It’s one of those days where there’s so much bad news in the news, and so it’s very hard for us to come out and be uplifting and our typical bouncy Monday selves.” Seacreast said, “There are no words to describe the pain these families are going through, that have lost loved ones, and so we think of all of you in this moment.” And he was in Las Vegas just a week ago for the iHeartRadio Music Festival.

Of last night’s tragedy at a country music festival, Seacrest went on to say, “It’s a concert. It’s a concert in Las Vegas. You go to these places and shows to escape reality, to celebrate a date, a relationship, a birthday, and to think that you have to be afraid to go to a concert in this day and age in our country? It’s awful.” He also acknowledged, “So many heroes in such a difficult situation.”

Ripa added, “And so many families devastated and we are praying for you today, all of the victims of this.” The video on the “Live” Instagram feed was captioned, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims in Las Vegas and their families.” The comments section is mixed with some fans wishing Ripa a happy birthday and others also reacting to the massacre. In addition, Seacrest tweeted, “Woke up to the horrific news coming out of Las Vegas. Sending thoughts and prayers to the people affected. I’m heartbroken and in disbelief.” Check out the video below, and click to see more celebrity reaction to the shooting, as well as celebrity tweets urging stricter gun laws.
