There is no “nasty feud” exploding between Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, despite a new tabloid cover story. Gossip Cop can confirm this is fake news and reveal what’s really going on.
“Kelly & Ryan Nasty Feud Explodes,” announces the new cover of Life & Style. That untrue headline is repeated inside the issue, where it’s asserted, “Betrayal, feuds and finger-pointing — hosts Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest find themselves embroiled in drama on set.” The article is hinged on the recent announcement that Seacrest will host the American Idol” reboot. Though Ripa excitedly announced the news, the tabloid contends, “Behind the scenes, sources say, she’s not happy.”
A so-called “TV insider” is quoted in the publication as saying, “The show is a wreck at the moment. She feels stabbed in the back and believes she’s going to lose Ryan just like she lost Michael [Strahan].” The gossip magazine’s supposed source goes on, “Kelly is truly pissed that after all the time ABC spent negotiating with Ryan for live, they would then buy the show that made him a household name, and take him away.” But Seacrest isn’t being taken away.
And while the tabloid’s alleged “insider” contends Ripa “really thought ‘Live’ would be Ryan’s focus,” that assertion ignores the fact that Seacrest actually has many other focuses, including his radio show and producing TV shows, all of which Ripa was well aware. She always knew he didn’t intend to only work on the talk show, despite what this story implies. Similarly, while the outlet’s “insider” maintains Ripa “feels [execs] made a huge miscalculation bringing him on to ‘Live,'” it fails to mention that she actually spent months pushing for him to join the show.
The picture being painted by the tabloid is simply not accurate, including the contention that Seacrest has “considered leaving the show” because “he’s already unhappy with ‘Live.'” That is also untrue. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Seacrest posts about the program on Twitter every day that he appears, and he repeatedly tweeted after the “Idol” news that he will be staying on “Live” as long as Ripa wants him. Additionally, a Seacrest confidante assures Gossip Cop he’s “totally committed” to the morning talk show.
Despite the magazine’s cover maintaining that there’s a “nasty feud” between the pair, Gossip Cop is told by multiple sources that Seacrest and Ripa get along great. Also, a rep for Ripa has previously debunked talk of infighting, while a spokesperson for the show currently notes they’re “terrific together.” Oddly, the tabloid seems to have forgotten the premise of its fake news story because buried deep in its article the publication actually acknowledges Ripa and Seacrest are “very fond of each other.”
Not only is tabloid’s article riddled with inaccuracies and contradictions, but the phony premise is also not that original. The Life & Style article is extremely similar to a Star cover story that Gossip Cop debunked two months which also wrongly maintained Ripa was in a feud with Seacrest. At the time, Ripa’s rep confirmed that she was thrilled with her co-host and that the magazine’s claims were “all false.” And Seacrest’s rep told us then that there was “no truth” to talk of a feud. It was fake news then and remains so now.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
