Kelly Ripa officially announced Ryan Seacrest as her new “Live” co-host on Monday. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop reported, it leaked less than an hour before the broadcast that Seacrest would be Ripa’s new co-host. Now on the live show, Ripa first talked into the camera, as if it was her new partner who was just out of view backstage. She then walked on stage solo, and deadpanned, “Wait, you were expecting somebody else?”

She went on to say more seriously, “Today, the next chapter of the ‘Live’ story is about to be written.” Ripa thanked the stars who co-hosted in the interim, as well as viewers, who “stuck with this show” during the long transition. She then declared, “Now, on with the show!” In classic Seacrest fashion, though, she said we’d meet the new co-host “after the break,” a pretty big hint given that’s one of the former “American Idol” host’s signature lines. Following the commercial interruption, Ripa again spoke to her co-host off-camera, before she and Seacrest made their big entrance.

Both Ripa and Seacrest expressed amazement that those close to them kept the secret that he’d be joining the show. Hilariously, he revealed that when he told close friends there’d be great news on Monday, they guessed he was engaged, having a baby, or… coming out of the closet. Ripa amusingly said he’s welcome to make any of those announcements on the show in the future. Ripa went on to confess she almost had to bow out of today’s show because she was sick all weekend and feared she had appendicitis.

Seacrest joked about hosting his debut solo, and read off advice about starting your first day at a new job. Interestingly, what will now be their “work wedding anniversary” coincides with Ripa’s actual wedding anniversary with husband Mark Consuelos. Seacrest, who is moving to New York, said he plans to return to his home base in Los Angeles on weekends. Later in the episode, Chris Pratt was the show’s first guest, and the Guardians of the Galaxy star brought out balloons and roses for Seacrest. In the show’s final minutes, Seacrest and Ripa toasted their new partnership.

Ripa teased on Sunday afternoon that she’d be making a co-host announcement on Monday’s episode. The formal announcement comes nearly a year after Michael Strahan’s last appearance. The current “GMA” anchor controversially exited “Live” last May after blindsiding Ripa with the news he was quitting their successful program to join the morning show.

In the months since, Ripa was paired with more than two dozen guest co-hosts, who temporarily filled in day after day. Some, like Jerry O’Connell, made repeated appearances due to their well-known friendliness with Ripa and familiarity to the “Live” audience. Others were given the coveted seat when they had something to promote. For his part, Seacrest co-hosted with Ripa last July, as Gossip Cop reported at the time.

Few, however, expected the full-time gig to go to him, given the amount of jobs he already juggles. But the TV personality will still have his daily radio show, except now “On Air With Ryan Seacrest” will be based out of New York instead of Los Angeles. In addition, he’ll still handle red carpet coverage for E!, where he recently renewed his contract.

Seacrest also already has history with ABC as the host of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” which he will continue to emcee. Watch the “Live” announcement video below!
