Kel Mitchell Returning Nickelodeon

Kel Mitchell is returning to Nickelodeon! Fifteen years after the end of “Kenan and Kel,” the former child star will be the main adult character in the new comedy series “Game Shakers.” See the first photo at right!

Mitchell is set to star as a rapper named Double G, who threatens to sue two 7th grade girls who used one of his songs without permission for their music app and gaming company. But rather than go to court, Mitchell’s character ends up partnering with the tweens. The show was created by “iCarly” and “Victorious” creator Dan Schneider, who previously worked with Mitchell as executive producer of “Kenan and Kel” and “All That.”

Schneider also co-wrote Mitchell and Kenan Thompson’s Good Burger movie, and oversaw Mitchell’s 2013 guest appearance on “Sam & Cat.” Mitchell tells Entertainment Weekly, “Dan and I go way back and have a history of great characters together on Nickelodeon.” Of his character, Mitchell says, “I get to play a hip-hop mogul who is the comedic version of artists like Kanye, Diddy, Eminem and 50 Cent.”

“Double G is a rapper/singer/dancer/entrepreneur/investor, which gives us great story lines on the show. I love playing such a wild character, because you will see some great physical comedy, but he also has heart,” Mitchell further tells the magazine, calling the part “one of those dream-come-true roles.” Mitchell also notes, “It’s great to be back on the network that gave me my first big television job. It was an awesome network then and is still an awesome network.”

He continues, “Now the whole family is excited to meet me — moms and dads quote my characters from the 90’s and their kids are quoting my current characters on Nickelodeon… I’m ready to shake up the game again.” “Game Shakers” is scheduled to premiere in September.
