Keith Urban performed his new song “Female” for the first time at Wednesday’s 2017 CMA Awards. Watch the video below!

Last week, Urban posted a black-and-white photo on Instagram of a microphone, accompanied by the date, “11.8.17.” On Tuesday, the singer continued to tease his fan base with another Instagram post, which featured footage of people in a recording studio. “#Female,” he captioned the post. Of course, Urban was hinting towards his new song. It was later revealed that “Female” was inspired by the strong women who came forward with sexual assault and harassment allegations against Harvey Weinstein. Urban said in an interview with the Associated Press on Tuesday night, “I think it’s just time for a recalibrating of the past, you know? Things have been a certain way for a long, long time, and I think you’re seeing a turning of the tide for that. This song just spoke to me. I just wanted to get in and record it right away.”

Urban’s most recent album album, Ripcord, which was released in 2016 and featured star-studded collaborations with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Pitbull and Nile Rogers, debuted at number one on the Top Country Albums chart and number four on the Billboard 200 chart. The hit record was nominated for Album of the Year at last year’s CMA Awards, but lost out to Eric Church’s Mr. Misunderstood. But much to the excitement of Urban’s fans, the release of “Female” signals that a brand-new studio album is in the works. In another social media tease, the star posted a photo in July of a recording studio control board, hinting that he has been working on new material. And in late September, Urban uploaded a picture of himself in the studio. He wrote in the caption, “That studio magic…”

For tonight’s 2017 CMAs, Urban scored four nominations. He’s vying for Entertainer of the Year, both Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” and Male Vocalist of the Year. The country music superstar has been nominated in the Male Vocalist category an impressive thirteen times, and he won the honor three consecutive times between 2004 and 2006.
