Is Keanu Reeves planning to adopt a child? That's what one of the tabloids is claiming. Gossip Cop looked into the story and we can confirm it's false.
An article in the latest issue of OK! brings up the fact that, in 1999, Reeves' then-girlfriend Jennifer Syme gave birth to their stillborn child. The magazine says the "emotional pain the actor endured had long turned him off to the idea of becoming a parent," but he recently changed his thoughts on the matter and is now "ready for fatherhood."
"A switch has been flicked on inside him and he wants a child," says a supposed source. "It's taken him two decades to realize that he still has a lot of love to give." After acknowledging that the actor is currently single, the outlet claims he's been consulting with Speed co-star and longtime friend Sandra Bullock for adoption advice.
"Keanu has so much support if he decides to go through with it," adds the alleged tipster. "He's so patient, kind and gentle, and he'd make an incredible father." Of course, Gossip Cop doesn't take issue with these statements regarding Reeves' positive qualities, but they happen to be peppered into a fake story.
In an interview with Esquire in 2017, Reeves shot down the possibility of a child in his future. "I'm too... it's too late. It's over," he said. "I'm 52. I'm not going to have any kids." Reeves, now 55, does not seem to have changed his tune. It's also worth noting, the tabloid throws in phrases like "if he decides to go through with it." It's always a red flag when a magazine doesn't have much faith in its own premise.
In addition to expressing a lack of interest in having a child, Reeves is also very busy these days with his career, which has seen a major uptick as of late. The actor has signed on for roles in several movies, TV shows and even video games over the next few years. Reeves also founded a custom motorcycle business and a cancer charity, both of which take up a chunk of his time.
OK! is the same tabloid Gossip Cop busted in January for falsely claiming Reeves was causing problems between Bullock and her boyfriend Bryan Randall. Later that month, the magazine wrongly reported Reeves was dating Halle Berry, his John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum co-star. The publication is clearly just guessing about Reeves' personal life. Considering it has yet to be correct about any aspect of it, we can safely say this adoption scenario is wrong as well.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
