Kaylee Millis gave her first live “So You Think You Can Dance” performance on Monday with All-Star partner Cyrus Spencer. Check out the video below!

As Gossip Cop reported in June, Millis was the first to audition for “So You Think You Can Dance” at the New York try-outs, and set an extremely high bar for the rest of the day. The contemporary performer, who explained that she always had to pay for her own dance lessons, performed an emotional routine to Julia Michaels’ “Issues.” She received a standing ovation from the judges, with Nigel Lythgoe even telling those waiting to take the stage, “There’s a standard that’s just been set.”

Millis continued to be a talent worth watching during the Dance Academy, where Spencer chose her to be on his team along with three other contestants. But he could only pick one of them to be a Top 10 finalist for the live shows. And after narrowing down his foursome, he ultimately chose to work with Millis over fellow standout competitor Havoc.

Now Millis and Spencer had to perform together for only their second time in the competition, and for the first time live, as this was the first live episode of the season. Their contemporary routine, in which they played fighting lovers, was set to Emeli Sande’s “Clown.” The moving performance sparked Mary Murphy to say, “It was really stunning. It was really beautiful together.”

She went on to tell Millis, “Something’s so fascinating about you. I adored you in your audition. There’s something so authentic and real when you dance. I can’t wait to see more.” But Nigel Lythgoe wasn’t nearly as enthusiastic. He noted Cyrus left his comfort zone as an animator by choosing a contemporary partner, and told him they’ll have to see “whether that is going to work out for you across the season.” And he bluntly said to Millis, “I think you need to raise your game a little bit… I need more from you.”

Vanessa Hudgens was also measured in her feedback. “I’ve loved you watching you dance. I think you are truly phenomenal dancer… I want to see a little bit of more weightlessness,” she encouraged. Watch the video below.
