A tabloid claims the reason Katie Holmes and Jamie Foxx went public at the Met Gala is because Tom Cruise is supposedly dating Elisabeth Moss. Nothing about the story is remotely true. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
Earlier this week, Gossip Cop busted OK! for falsely claiming Cruise is in a secret romance with Moss, who's a fellow Scientologist. The two stars simply aren't a couple. A rep for the "Handmaid's Tale" star told us on the record that she's not in a relationship with Cruise. The actress has a boyfriend who's identity she's keeping private, but it's not Cruise. In fact, Moss said in a recent Marie Claire interview that her boyfriend frequently accompanies her to Toronto Raptors and Maple Leafs games. Cruise has never been spotted at the games.
Last week, Holmes and Foxx arrived together at the Met Gala and posed for photos inside the event after years of hiding their romance. This has led to the tabloid concocting a story about how Cruise's supposed new relationship inspired the two to come out as a couple. "Katie and Jamie feel like they can be open with their love now that Tom has fallen for Elisabeth," a supposed source tells the magazine.
"The word is that there may have been a lot of resentment from Tom in the past," adds the alleged insider. "But now that he's got other things on his mind - like Elisabeth - he's much more relaxed." The seemingly phony tipster goes on to say that Cruise may have even given his blessing to Holmes and Foxx. "There are whispers that this means Katie and Jamie can finally get married, without any hassle from Tom," contends the questionable source. "He's too in love with Elisabeth to care anymore."
As noted above, Cruise and Moss aren't an item, so the tabloid's entire storyline is baseless. It should be noted, however, that Holmes and Foxx didn't exactly step out as a couple at the Met Gala. The pair didn't walk the red carpet together, but instead posed for a few photos once inside the venue. The actress and the actor aren't hiding their relationship, but they're not flaunting it either.
E! News, a much more reliable source for celebrity reporting than OK!, noted that Holmes and Foxx came out of hiding because "they're just done with the whole sneaking around phase." The outlet further clarified that the two "still don't want to have a public relationship, but it was a lot of effort to keep things under wraps and never be able to go out together." Cruise's nonexistent romance with Moss wasn't a factor.
As for OK!'s track record, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid in January for making up a story about Holmes and Foxx getting secretly married in Paris. That never happened. Last year, we called out the magazine for wrongly reporting Holmes and Foxx had split. That didn't happen either. This latest article is more nonsense from the untrustworthy outlet.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
