Was Kathie Lee Gifford hit on the chin by a wooden plank at a haunted castle in Scotland? That’s the latest claim from one particular tabloid. Gossip Cop, however, can correct this fabricated story. We’re told it’s “false.”

The bizarre allegation can be found in this week’s Star, which blares in a new headline, “Great Scot! KLG’s Smacked By British Boogeyman.” In the accompanying article, the gossip magazine ridiculously asserts that the “Today” show host was hit in the face by a wooden plank while touring a “haunted” castle in Loch Ness, Scotland. The star, who was “marveling at the ancient decor” inside the castle, got quite the surprise when a “spooky spector decided to shut her up.” A so-called “source” is quoted as saying, “Kathie was climbing up an old spiral staircase when, out of nowhere, a wooden plank mysteriously sprung up, slamming her right on the chin!”

In terribly unnatural language, the outlet’s questionable “insider” goes on to contend, “The staffers hustled Kathie out of there quicker than you say ‘haggis.'” And attempting to mimic a Scottish accent, the publication’s alleged “witness” and “gabby ghostbuster” then concludes, “Terrified castle caretakers were left trembling like leaves, murmuring, ‘Twas that ghastly, nasty old ghost, as usual!'” But if it wasn’t already obvious, the entire report is made-up. The supposed incident never happened.

A source close to Gifford tells Gossip Cop the story is simply “false.” While it’s true the star recently visited Scotland, the “Today” show host was certainly not hit on the chin with a wooden plank by a “seriously sassy spirit” while touring a “haunted” castle in the U.K. What’s more, the quotes appear to be entirely fake, and the premise itself is nothing more than a scarily untrue fabrication.
