Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have four children between them, but none of them are twins. The most recent issue of New Idea even has a story about Middleton being pregnant with twins right now. Gossip Cop has not heard the official word from Kensington Palace, but given the gossip media’s embarrassing history of bad reporting on this subject, we are very suspicious of this latest claim. Here are just a few times in the last few years Gossip Cop has debunked royal twin stories from the tabloids.

In October 2017, shortly after Middleton and Prince William announced she was pregnant with her third child, Life & Style splashed a headline across its cover that read, “She’s Having TWINS!” Middleton was not having twins. Kensington Palace confirmed she was having only one child. Prince Louis was born in April 2018. Gossip Cop stood by its reporting the entire time and as usual, we were correct.

Despite official statements from the royal family regarding this pregnancy, the tabloids didn’t let up. In December 2017, OK! asserted a “baby surprise: twin girls!” for Middleton. It was a similar article to the previous one and it was similarly false, including saying this was the “first set of royal twins in 700 years.” The outlet claimed to have a source inside Kensington Palace, but after Gossip Cop called out the publication for its substandard reporting, it has to be questioned if the source was ill-informed or if the story was simply created out of thin air.

In February 2018, just a couple of months before Prince Louis was born, Life & Style was sticking with its phony narrative about Middleton having twins. This time, the tabloid went with a very deceiving headline that read, “Yes, I’m Having 2 Girls!” The headline implied that Middleton herself was confirming the outlet’s bogus reporting. The Duchess of Cambridge was still only pregnant with one child, and it was a boy, Louis – not two girls. Gossip Cop continued to call out the magazine for its false claims.

Once Prince Louis was born, the tabloid’s attentions focused on Middleton’s new sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry. The bogus stories started almost as soon as the couple got married. Just weeks after their royal wedding, the National Enquirer alleged Markle was pregnant with the “first royal twins in 588 years,” which is an 112-year difference from the last time an outlet tried to date the last set of twins born to a British royal. It’s worth noting that “588” was actually correct, not 700 as OK! claimed. Still, the report was very wrong and Markle wasn’t even pregnant, as Gossip Cop reported at the time.

On October 15, 2018, an official royal statement announced the Duchess of Sussex was pregnant with a baby. “A” baby. One week later, however, Woman’s Day falsely announced on its cover that Prince Harry and Markle were expecting twins. Like clockwork, the tabloids were immediately making up allegations of twins. Gossip Cop busted the outlet for its questionable reporting, knowing full well we would have many more to come.

Sure enough, in December, our old friends at Life & Style were back with more bogus claims about Markle being pregnant with twins, just as the publication had done with her sister-in-law. The story was filled will all kinds of details, like Prince Harry “implying it’s boys.” It wasn’t twin boys. It was one boy, Archie, born on May 6, 2019. Once again, Gossip Cop stepped in to correct the story. This was just one of at least nine stories on the subject Gossip Cop debunked. Earlier this year, in fact, we broke down many more of the false stories about Markle having twins.
