A new report claiming Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle are “total BFFs” is entirely made-up. Gossip Cop can expose this fake news, which was posted by one particularly unreliable outlet.

Of course, this latest story comes courtesy of HollywoodLife, which is routinely caught telling tales about the royal family. According to the website, Middleton and the “Suits” star have “already bonded,” and the Duchess of Cambridge is “doing everything she can to help ease the actress into the importance of her new role.” In the outlet’s seemingly made-up article, a so-called “royal insider” is quoted as saying, “Kate has taken Meghan under her wing and has offered her support and the promise of plenty of advice to help her adjust to her new life.”

The site’s almost assuredly fake “source” goes on to claim that Middleton, a former “commoner,” “knows better than anyone how overwhelming and challenging it can be to make the transition into being a member of the royal family,” and she’s allegedly “vowed to assist Meghan in any way she can.” The blog’s tipster further blathers, “Meghan and Kate haven’t spent a lot of time together yet, but they are already firm friends. [They] clicked immediately, they share a very similar sense of humor and they’re both super sweet and kind people.”

Gossip Cop actually expected this type of story to appear on HollywoodLife following the announcement of Prince Harry and Markle’s engagement. The site tends to take news stories and then have unnamed sources magically offering quotes that no other legitimate outlets have. Additionally, the supposed remarks from the outlet’s untraceable sources generally don’t provide any real insight and often are based on previously published information or common sense. For instance, it’s obvious the Duchess and Markle have bonded since Middleton has publicly expressed she’s “thrilled” about the engagement and both she and the actress have lived under the same roof on several occasions.

It should be noted, however, no “royal insider” has fed the aptly nicknamed HollywoodLies with inside dish about Middleton and Markle’s friendship, no matter how plausible the report may seem. Also, a real palace “source” would never refer to Catherine or the Duchess of Cambridge as “Kate,” which Gossip Cop uses only as a matter of convenience. Regardless, we still checked in with an actual palace source, who assure us the story is “made-up.”

This isn’t the first time Gossip Cop has busted the often discredited outlet for fabricating royal stories. For example, we corrected the site when it previously claimed Middleton was pregnant with twins. If HollywoodLies truly had a “royal insider,” it wouldn’t have published the phony twins tale. We also called out the outlet for running a slew of untrue articles over the summer that maintained Prince Harry and Markle got engaged in Africa. The blog can assert it has exclusive stories about Middleton and Markle, but it’s often untrue.
