Is Kate Beckinsale's 23-year-old "boy toy" Matt Rife moving in with her? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.
"Cougar Kate Playing House With Her Boy Toy Beau," reads headline in the latest issue of Star. The accompanying article says the 45-year-old actress has given the young comedian a key to her Los Angeles home, "and they're ready to take their relationship to the next level."
An alleged insider tells the magazine, "Kate finally trusts Matt and has committed to this romance. Their physical connection has been off the charts, but she also insists they've got a lot in common." The outlet's supposed source adds, "He's sensitive, interesting and never pressures her into anything. That's why he's free to come and go from her place - and the talk is they'll make it a permanent arrangement before long."
Before Gossip Cop addresses the tabloid's claim, we'll recap the history of the pair's relationship. The two were first spotted on a PDA-filled date back in June 2017, but reportedly split two months later. They were spotted on another date night in November 2017, but soon went their separate ways again. Last month, Beckinsale and Rife were photographed together for the first time in nearly a year while attending Dave Chapelle's stand-up show in Los Angeles, along with another friend. The two appear to have an on-off romance, but they're not in a serious or committed relationship.
Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Beckinsale, who tells us on the condition of anonymity that the magazine's article is "absolutely not true." Rife doesn't have a key to the actress's home and she hasn't invited him to live with her. The magazine's article seems to have been concocted because the actress and comedian were spotted together again last month. However, the outing didn't appear romantic and the two weren't spotted showing any PDA. Regardless, we can confirm they have no plans to live together.
Meanwhile, the tabloids have a history of publishing bogus stories about Beckinsale. Gossip Cop busted Star's sister publication, the National Enquirer, for alleging that Pierce Brosnan was headed for divorce because his wife was jealous of his love scenes with the actress in their movie The Only Living Boy in New York. The report was ridiculous and Brosnan remains happily married. This new article involving Beckinsale's living situation is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
