Kanye West still hasn't released a new diss track aimed at Taylor Swift, despite reports a year ago that claimed he was going to respond to "Look What You Made Me Do." Gossip Cop actually debunked the untrue stories when they came out. But now the passage of time has proven our reporting was correct.

On August 24 and 25, 2017, Gossip Cop called out HollywoodLife for making up phony "exclusives" related to the highly-anticipated release of Swift's single. In the wake of the announcement that Swift had new music on the way, the site alleged West, her on-and-off nemesis, was prepared to record a diss track if her album slammed Kim Kardashian. "Kanye is locked and loaded if Taylor dares come after his wife Kim in her new song. Kanye feels that he is a creative genius and can drop a rebuttal track in hours of Taylor releasing anything," a so-called "source" was quoted as saying.

This alleged tipster maintained West had "all kinds of new beats and lyrics ready to go." But while there was indeed speculation that Swift was going to take aim at him and Kardashian, the blog really didn't know how West was feeling and how he might be respond, if at all. The website was just pretending to have insight, as it so often does. That was also the case with a second story that followed the release of "Look What You Made Me Do." In that piece, the outlet insisted West was "furious" over the song, and warned that Swift hadn't "heard the last of his wrath."

"He's ready to fire back in a major way," alleged the online publication, which quoted another untraceable "source" as saying, "When it comes to Kanye he lives in the music world and doesn't want anyone to have a one up on him and this track is clearly going to be responded to." Unsurprisingly, the site had no specifics to offer, and no evidence to back up its contentions. And while the blog relied entirely on anonymous "sources," Gossip Cop spoke with the rapper's own spokesperson the record, who exclusively told us point-blank that West did not have plans for a diss track response.

And now that a full 12 months have gone by, it's abundantly clear West was never preparing a Swift diss track, either. Though both the lyrics and the music video for "Look What You Made Me Do" did seem to have references to West and Kardashian, he has still yet to respond musically. West even released a new album in June, but none of the songs were about his beef with Swift. Of course, it's still possible he'll one day drop some bars again about the singer, but it's readily apparent HollywoodLife was peddling lies last year, just as Gossip Cop had said at the time.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
