Did Kanye West really panic after being chased by a squirrel that he believed was a rat? This ludicrous story can be found in one of this week’s tabloids, but Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we can exclusively set the record straight.

“Kanye Cracks Over Rascally ‘Rat’ Attack,” reads a headline in the latest issue of Star. In the accompanying article, a so-called “witness” claims to have spotted the rapper strolling through the garden of the Beverly Hills Hotel, but then “careening through the door screaming that he was being chased by a rat.” According to the unreliable magazine, staffers rushed over and discovered that the culprit was a small squirrel. “Security guards tried not to pee their pants laughing,” adds the questionable source.

The tabloid’s story provides very few details, such as when this supposed event occurred, so Gossip Cop was quick to question the validity of it all. Our doubts were confirmed after checking in with a rep for West, who exclusively assures us that the magazine’s tale is “totally untrue” and simply never happened. Additionally, we checked and no one at the Beverly Hills Hotel was aware of such an incident ever taking place. As far as we can tell, West’s closest connection to vermin is his new Yeezy 500 Desert Rat sneakers.

Of course, the rapper has been known to behave eccentrically on occasion, but Star has a habit of concocting bogus stories about his conduct. Gossip Cop previously called out the magazine for falsely claiming that West spent $750,000 on gold-plated toilets. And last year, the tabloid wrongly reported that the reason West was hospitalized was because he stopped taking his antidepressant medication. Both of those articles were entirely fabricated, and the same goes for this latest one.
