Kanye West does not "refuse" to change daughter Chicago's diapers, despite a ridiculous claim. This allegation has spread from the tabloids to gossip sites, even though it's false. Gossip Cop can debunk the stories.
Often when a famous male celebrity becomes a father or welcomes a new child, the tabloids resort to a tired old trope: Men refusing to change diapers. Gossip Cop has busted such made-up tales over the years involving Mel Gibson, George Clooney and other notable celebrities. Now it's West who's being targeted, a few weeks after he and Kim Kardashian welcomed daughter Chicago via surrogate.
"Kanye Goes On Diaper Strike," reads the headline in the current edition of Star, which claims the rapper "refuses to get up for midnight bottle feedings or change dirty diapers." Referring to their two older kids, a so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "Kim let it slide the first time around, but she was counting on Kanye to help out around the house [now] because she already has her hands full with North and Saint."
Then, after Chicago was born last month, West went out of town on business. Kardashian "couldn't believe he flew off to New York just a week after Chi was born, leaving her alone with three kids," claims the gossip magazine's supposed source, who further alleges, "Kim was furious when Kanye told her to just hire another nanny. She made it clear that he better start pulling his weight, or else."
HollywoodLife quickly picked up the claims, blaring in a headline, "Kanye West Reportedly Refuses To Change Chicago's Diapers & Kim Is Furious With Him." The site even asks it readers, "Do you think Kanye will step up as a dad?" And while the website known as HollywoodLies rushed to regurgitate the magazine's latest allegations, Gossip Cop spent a few days investigating.
We've since learned the claims about West refusing to change diapers are completely untrue. Our insider, who wasn't at liberty to comment on the record, tells us the media is trying to "stir the pot." "He does everything that a dad does. Even diaper duty," another source shared with People while explaining how "excited" West is about his new daughter.
Even during a "Watch What Happens Live" appearance back in 2013, after North was born, Kris Jenner debunked false rumors about the music superstar refusing to change diapers. And while West did spend time working in Europe after Chicago's birth, "Kim has her family help with the kids," a source also told People. In other words, the Star story is wrong from top to bottom, and HollywoodLife is just as bad for not even attempting to fact-check the tabloid's article.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
