Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel did not get a "$300 Million Divorce," or any divorce for that matter, despite a magazine cover story that was published one year ago today. Gossip Cop shot down the false claim, noting at the time that they were happily married. A full 12 months later, the speculative tabloid report remains untrue.
On September 27, 2017, the front page of OK! exclaimed, "Justin & Jessica: $300 Million Divorce!" Inside, the publication titled its article, "Justin & Jessica Marriage Crumbles!" The story maintained the couple would often "fight" over a variety of topics, leaving their marriage "in jeopardy." The tabloid seemed to have premised its story on Timberlake being "noticeably missing" from that year's Emmy Awards, which Biel attended solo. An alleged "source" stoked the fire by saying, "The fact that Justin refused to be by her side speaks volumes about the state of their relationship."
The outlet further contended, "Jess often feels like a single mom... she's sick of it." Then, after again asserting they repeatedly engaged in "heated fights," the magazine claimed there was a real chance of Timberlake and Biel "calling it quits, which could see Jessica walk away with half of Justin's $300 million fortune." But despite all its dramatic declarations, the tabloid offered no concrete proof that they were actually getting a divorce.
Of course, as Gossip Cop noted then, Timberlake hadn't "refused" to accompany his wife to the Emmy Awards. Simply, he was 6,300 miles away performing that same night at Rock In Rio in Brazil. More significantly, Biel knew he was signed to the music festival long before she was even tapped to be a presenter (not a nominee) at the awards show.
Now 365 days later, it's clear the tabloid's story was flimsier than the paper it was printed on. As Gossip Cop mentioned then, days after the Emmys — but before the magazine went to print — Biel was with Timberlake first at the Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee and then at the "Concert For Charlottesville." So magazine knew prior to hitting newsstands that its "$300 Million Divorce" premise was bogus.
In the months since that provably false cover story, the couple has posted numerous photos of themselves on social media looking happy and very much in love. In July, for instance, Timberlake posted a picture on Instagram of him kissing Biel in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. And Biel uploaded on Instagram a photo of her and Timberlake embracing, with a note that read, "There aren't enough [words] to express ALL the aspects of my love and respect for you." And hours before this year's Emmys, for which Biel was nominated for Best Movie/Limited Series Actress for her role on USA's "The Sinner," Timberlake shared a photo on Instagram of them dressed up and smiling, along with the caption, "We got a babysitter. #Emmys"
When OK! first published its untrue cover story about Timberlake and Biel getting a "divorce," a mutual friend of ours and the couple told Gossip Cop the magazine was 100 percent wrong and that "they support and love each other." It was more than clear at this year's Emmys just how solid the their marriage is (photo above). Maybe it's time for OK! to divorce itself from its bad Biel and Timberlake sources.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
