What really happened between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez this weekend? The exes seemingly had a fight on Instagram, but not everything that supposedly went down is real. Gossip Cop investigated, calling multiple sources, and now we can separate the facts from the fiction.

FACT: Justin Bieber threatened to make his Instagram private.
As Gossip Cop reported, Bieber wrote on Instagram early Saturday, “I’m gonna make my Instagram private if you guys don’t stop the hate this is getting out of hand, if you guys are really fans you wouldn’t be so mean to people that I like.” The singer’s post was in response to negative comments made on social media about Sofia Richie. But many of Bieber’s supporters felt offended by the use of “fans” instead of “Beliebers,” and accused him of choosing Richie over them. “#RIPBeliebers” became a trending topic.

FACT: Selena Gomez told Justin Bieber to not “be mad at your fans.”
Gomez commented on Bieber’s Instagram post, writing, “If you can’t handle the hate then stop posting pictures of your girlfriend lol -it should be special between you two only. Don’t be mad at your fans. They love you. They were there for you before anyone.”

FICTION: Justin Bieber said Selena Gomez “used” him.
It was then claimed that Bieber responded with two comments, saying, “It’s funny to see people that used me for attention and still try to point the finger this way. Sad. All love,” and “I’m not one for receiving hate. Hope u all can be kind to my friends and eachother. And yes I love my Beliebers.” Bieber did NOT write these comments. They are photoshopped.

FICTION: Selena Gomez said Justin Bieber “cheated” on her.
Though those comments were fake, it was then alleged Gomez responded with a message reading, “Funny how the ones that cheated multiple times, are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no wonder fans are mad. Sad. All love.” The remark led to a new trend, “#SelenaEndedJustinParty.” But Gomez did NOT write the comment. It was also photoshopped.

FICTION: Justin Biebez said Selena Gomez cheated with “Zayn.”
After that alleged back-and-forth, a new purported Bieber comment circulated. That one said, “I cheated.. oh I forgot about You and Zayn?” Again, Bieber did NOT write this comment. It was, like the others, photoshopped. One of our impeccable sources close to the superstar exclusively tells Gossip Cop, “Justin never commented.”

It’s become a disturbingly normal occurrence for manufactured Instagram comments to go viral, with people assuming they are authentic. But nothing is real here aside from Bieber’s original Instagram post, and Gomez’s initial comment. Nothing else is legitimate: Bieber did not say Gomez “used” him, she did not say he “cheated,” and he did not say she hooked up with “Zayn” Malik.

For whatever reason, some people really want this to be a full-blown “Jelena” feud. But it has been falsely and wrongly blown out of proportion.
