Justin Bieber Hand In Hand Telethon

Justin Bieber encouraged people to come together in prayer during Tuesday’s “Hand In Hand” telethon. During one of the hurricane relief special’s many solemn moments, he turned to religion to unite the country during this difficult time. Watch the video below.

Speaking off the cuff from the Los Angeles set of the cross-country event, Bieber said, “Hey guys at home. Justin here. I’m super grateful to be part of this cause. We don’t want you guys to just watch. We want you guys to be part of this and donate whatever you can. It doesn’t have to be much, just whatever you can possibly give. I got my man here, and we’re gonna say a quick prayer.”

Bieber’s friend noted they were joined by a rabbi as well as the director of religious affairs from the Islamic Center of Southern California. He then said, “Let us pray. God, we the faith community come asking for wisdom, discernment and compassion as we walk alongside those who have lost so much — love ones, homes, businesses and hope.” He went on to say that they would be the “hands and feet of compassion” for “all who are in need, no matter their background.” He concluded, “In a time of great division in our nation, may we lay down our differences and pick up our common humanity for the sole purpose of serving our fellow man until hearts are healed and lives restored. And though we don’t yet understand the purpose of the storms, we know you will guide us through the storms, so we close this prayer not with an amen, but a praise rooted in an eternal hope, hallelujah.”

Immediately after, Tori Kelly and Luis Fonsi performed “Hallelujah.” Bieber’s “Despacito” collaborator did the second verse entirely in Spanish. Before and after the performance, Bieber worked the phone lines, and even tweeted for fans to call him. Check out the video below. NOTE: The video is no longer available.
