Justin Bieber’s privacy was violated on Wednesday when the New York Daily News published long-lensed photos, taken unbeknownst to the singer, of him naked while vacationing in Bora Bora. In addition to the unauthorized grainy pictures of Bieber nude, the paper also posted online a video of him in the buff with a black box over his penis. Shame on the Daily News for violating Bieber’s privacy by publishing photos and videotape for which he was completely unaware were being taken.

As Gossip Cop previously reported, this sadly is not the first time the paper has crossed the line. You’ll recall back in April, the Daily News published invasive long-lensed photos of Caitlyn Jenner in a dress on her private property before she was ready to discuss her transition. None of those pictures were sanctioned by Jenner, and the paper got blasted for it.

And the Daily News deserves the same opprobrium for this. The argument that Bieber is a celebrity and should be on guard 24/7, even during vacations in far off places like Bora Bora, doesn’t stand. Similarly, invoking freedom of the press is also not excuse to violate another’s privacy the way the Daily News has.

If Bieber decided to sunbath nude in the backyard of his own home, but some paparazzi hid a mile away in a tree and was somehow able to capture pictures of him naked, most people would agree the photographer and any outlet that published the shots were violating his privacy. Bieber’s bungalow in Bora Bora is, for the time he’s on vacation, his residence, and he should be afforded the same privacy rights.

Unlike the naked butt pictures Bieber posted of himself in July, also while in Bora Bora, these new photos and video footage the Daily News bought are completely unauthorized. Bieber later removed his own bare behind picture because he felt it was inappropriate for his younger fans. Hopefully, the paper will also realize it’s wrong and shameful, especially to publish unsanctioned nude photos, and similarly remove them from its website.
