Jumanji Wins Box Office

All the box office competition continued to be no match for Jumanji, even with two new films opening this past weekend. Get the details, and check out the grosses for all of the Top 10 movies below!

Although Jumanji didn’t originally top the box office due to the outsized success of The Last Jedi, its trajectory has been the opposite of the Star Wars film. While The Last Jedi dropped in the rankings, Jumanji climbed. And not only that, the action-adventure flick was able to hold on to first place for three straight weeks now. It easily won this time around with $20 million in ticket sales.

One of this weekend’s newcomers was 12 Strong, which tells the true story of a group of soldiers who were sent to Afghanistan following 9/11. Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon and Michael Pena star, but perhaps the most notable cast member is Rob Riggle. A veteran himself, he actually plays the role of his real-life former boss. The war epic debuted in second place with a haul of $16.5 million.

The other new offering was Den Of Thieves. The heist thriller features Gerard Butler and 50 Cent, along with O’Shea Jackson Jr., who broke out on the big screen by playing his famous father, Ice Cube, in Straight Outta Compton. His latest effort earned $15.3 million to open in third. The Post, one of the most buzzed about films this award’s season, took in $12.2 million for fourth place. And The Greatest Showman brought in $11 million for the fifth position.

Rounding out the Top 10 was Paddington 2 in sixth with $8.2 million, followed in seventh by The Commuter, which amassed $6.7 million in ticket sales. Star Wars: The Last Jedi finished in eighth with $6.6 million, while Insidious: The Last Key secured ninth with $5.9 million. Rounding out the Top 10 was Forever My Girl. It earned $4 million.
