Julia Roberts is not "secretly in love" with Richard Gere, despite a false tabloid report. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story. There's simply no truth to it.
According to OK!, the actress's nearly 17-year marriage to Danny Moder is "crumbling" and she's never been able to get over her "intense chemistry and close bond" with Gere, her co-star in 1990's Pretty Woman and 1999's Runaway Bride. A supposed source tells the magazine that her "powerful connection" with the actor has caused major problems in her marriage.
"Richard's always been the one that Julia's turned to in tough times, and she feels like no one knows her like he does," adds the alleged insider. "Julia can't help but wonder if she should've been with Richard all along." The questionable tipster goes on to say that the actress's friends believe she'd leave her husband for Gere if he'd have her.
The seemingly phony source continues, "Julia knows she'd be risking it all for love, and the word is, she thinks it might be worth it.... People have always thought she's secretly in love with him." Gere, however, is married to Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, but the so-called "insider" says "there are fears that he might be playing with fire by being so close to Julia."
The suspicious tipster further contends, "If Julia ends up back on the market, it might cause Richard to question his own relationship. Everyone has always thought that [Roberts and Gere] were perfect for each other. It will certainly be an interesting few months - especially if Julia does pull the trigger on her marriage."
None of this is remotely true. For starters, the tabloid doesn't bother to mention that Gere welcomed a baby boy with his wife in February. Just last month, Gere and Silva were photographed cuddling up at the Tribeca Film Festival. The actor is very much in love with his wife, and certainly isn't "questioning" their relationship.
As for Roberts, Gossip Cop has debunked countless stories about the actress's marriage being in trouble. The spouses, who share three kids and will celebrate their 17th wedding anniversary in July, are going strong. In fact, Roberts said in a recent Harper's Bazaar cover story that divorce rumors "still hurt my feelings." She added, "Because I'm so proud of my marriage... there's so much happiness wrapped up in what we've found together."
Meanwhile, this wouldn't be the first time OK! has attempted to link the actress to her Pretty Woman co-star. Back in September, Gossip Cop busted the outlet for falsely claiming Roberts was leaning on Gere amid a supposed "marriage crisis." In 2017, we called out the magazine's sister publication, the National Enquirer, for wrongly reporting that Roberts was getting a divorce over her "intimate hookup" with Gere. This narrative has never been true and it's no more accurate now.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
