Julia Roberts and husband Danny Moder are quitting Hollywood and adopting a new child in an effort to save their marriage? That's what one of the tabloids is claiming. Gossip Cop looked into the story and found it to be completely untrue.
According to the National Enquirer, the actress and her husband of 17 years "have made a secret pact to scale back on work, travel the world and focus on family," while adding another child to their brood. Roberts and Moder already have three children — Phinnaeus, 14, Hazel, 14, and Henry, 12 — but the outlet says they're looking to expand their family.
"Julia and Danny don't have a huge amount in common except their kids," says an anonymous insider. "They want to adopt to give them a chance to reconnect." As for what's causing their alleged marital issues, the tipster claims Roberts' close friendship with Pretty Woman co-star Richard Gere has caused major tension, and they've been leading "virtually separate lives."
However, neither Roberts or Moder are giving up on their careers. The actress is starring in and producing the Amazon drama Little Bee, which is currently in pre-production. The cinematographer is currently working on the film Flag Day. That's sign number one that the tabloid's story is nonsense.
Meanwhile, the actress has emphatically denied the possibility of expanding her family. During a 2013 interview on "The Late Show with David Letterman," Roberts said there's no chance she's having a fourth child. This takes the magazine's adoption angle totally off the table, while the allegations regarding Gere are just as weak and tired.
Back in 2017, Gossip Cop busted the Enquirer for falsely claiming Roberts and Moder were getting a divorce over Gere. In July, the tabloid's sister publication, OK!, alleged that Roberts was "secretly in love with" Gere. The reality is that the former co-stars are friends, but they're certainly not close enough to cause martial strife. Gere is likely too busy with his own wife and his six-month-old son to play any kind of problematic role in someone else's relationship.
Roberts and Moder, who celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary last month, are still going strong. In fact, an Instagram post that Roberts shared a few weeks ago showed she uses Moder's picture for her phone's lock screen. That's not exactly something you do for a spouse who's leading a "virtually separate" life.
Unfortunately, the couple's relationship has been the topic of a lot of incorrect stories in the 17 years they've been married. Another one of Enquirer's sister publications, Star, wrongly reported in June that Roberts and Moder's marriage was "crumbling" due to their differing lifestyles. Just two weeks ago, NW published a false story about Moder dumping Roberts for a younger actress. No matter how many fake articles get published, the two remain happily married.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
