Julia Roberts and Gwyneth Paltrow have never been in a feud, but exactly one year ago today, a tabloid falsely claimed the two actresses were at war. Gossip Cop debunked the phony story when it first emerged. The passage of time has proven we were correct to do so.
On October 23, 2018, RadarOnline alleged Paltrow was furious with Roberts for hanging out with her ex-husband Chris Martin. The story was written shortly after Roberts attended a party in Los Angeles thrown by Martin and his girlfriend, Dakota Johnson. According to the blog, Paltrow was "fuming" because she felt that Roberts had taken her ex-husband's side in their divorce.
The story was based on claims from an anonymous source, but Gossip Cop reached out to Paltrow's spokesperson, who dismissed it as nonsense. The article also made very little sense considering that Paltrow and Martin are on great terms. In fact, they get along as well as any ex-spouses possibly could. The actress even said the Coldplay frontman was "like my brother" in an interview last year.
More significantly, however, is that less than two weeks after we debunked RadarOnline's story, Roberts appeared on Paltrow's Goop podcast. The two actresses had a fun conversation and put their friendship on display for the whole world to enjoy. Tabloid stories never age well in general, but the blog's feud rumors fell apart particularly quickly.
As noted above, Paltrow and Martin haven't formed sides in their divorce, so it's not possible for Roberts to choose one over the other. In August, Paltrow and her husband Brad Falchuk went on a double date with Martin and Johnson in the Hamptons. This was just one recent example of the friendly exes getting together with their respective new partners. RadarOnline seems to know nothing about Paltrow and Martin's dynamic, so the site wrongly assumed the actress would be angry about Roberts hanging out with her ex-husband, then made up a story about it.
It should be noted, the blog eventually moved on from Paltrow's relationship with her ex, and came up with a new bogus premise involving her current husband. In April, Gossip Cop busted the website for falsely claiming Paltrow and Falchuk's marriage was in trouble following a "screaming match" at a Los Angeles restaurant. The blog provided zero evidence of a fight between the spouses. Six months later, the actress and the TV producer are still happily married. There's a common occurrence happening here. The website will publish some fiction, Gossip Cop will debunk it, and soon the realities of life will prove our point.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
