A tabloid claims Julia Roberts is furious over Charlize Theron supposedly "dissing" her in an interview. The story is completely untrue. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
In a recent interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Theron noted that she's never been interested in starring in a romantic comedy, but made an exception for her new movie Long Shot because it offers a more unconventional take on the genre. "I just never saw myself as Julia Roberts, the rom-com person, and I didn't see what I could bring to those roles anyway," the actress told the publication.
According to Woman's Day Australia, Roberts believes Theron's comments were dismissive and insulting. A supposed source tells the magazine, "Julia is so much more than just a 'rom-com star.' For Charlize to label her in this way is rude and disrespectful to say the least. There's no way we've heard the last of this."
The tabloid is simply attempting to stir up nonexistent drama. For starters, Theron never suggested that Roberts is "just a rom-com star." Roberts, however, has in fact starred in many popular romantic comedies over the years. Theron was simply using the actress as an example of someone who's found success in the genre. The Long Shot star later made a point of nothing she's "incredibly flawed" and is drawn toward characters who have similar issues.
Theron was explaining her process of choosing roles, despite the outlet making it seem like she went out of her way to slam Roberts. Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms the Pretty Woman star isn't angry about what the fellow actress said in her interview.
Unfortunately, we're not surprised by the tabloid's bogus report. Gossip Cop called out NW in January for attempting to create a fake feud between Roberts and Lady Gaga. Shortly before that, the outlet made up a phony story about Hollywood celebrities being forced to choose sides in an alleged feud between Roberts and Jennifer Aniston.
Meanwhile, Gossip Cop called out the magazine last year for falsely claiming Roberts and her husband Danny Moder were getting a divorce. That didn't happen, but a few months later, the outlet made up a ridiculous story about Roberts being in a secret romance with Brad Pitt. It's quite clear the unreliable publication has zero insight into the actress's personal life. This latest article attempting to pit her against Theron is more nonsense.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
