UPDATE: Joni Mitchell’s official site tweeted: “Joni is currently in intensive care in an LA area hospital but is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them.” And a message on the website itself reads: “Joni was found unconscious in her home this afternoon. She regained consciousness on the ambulance ride to an L.A. area hospital. She is currently in intensive care undergoing tests and is awake and in good spirits. More updates to come as we hear them. Light a candle and sing a song, let’s all send good wishes her way.”

Joni Mitchell was rushed to the hospital on Tuesday after falling ill at her Los Angeles home.

A 911 call was placed around 2:30 p.m. local time reportedly saying there was an unconscious female at the residence. The legendary folk singer was said to be conscious, however, when paramedics transported her to the hospital. According to TMZ, Mitchell is in the intensive care unit, and while the cause of the health crisis has not been disclosed, “it appears to be quite serious.” A tweet from Mitchell’s official website, which is verified on Twitter, reads, “Joni has been hospitalized. We are awaiting official word on her condition and will post it here as soon as we know.”

Mitchell, of course, was a 1960s and 1970s icon, with her music and spirit alike influencing a generation, and she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Some of her most notable songs include “Big Yellow Taxi,” “Woodstock,” and “Both Sides Now.” Over the course of her decades-long career, Mitchell has won 8 Grammys, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002 and Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 2008. That same year, she also received the Album of the Year honor for contributions to Herbie Hancock’s winning album, River: The Joni Letters.

Mitchell’s last studio labum, Shine, was released in 2007, though a compliation called Love Has Many Faces: A Quartet, A Ballet, Waiting to Be Danced came out last year. Mitchell, who is 71, was last seen at February’s star-studded Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons. Mitchell herself was honored last fall at the Hammer Museum Gala in the Garden event.
