Johnny Depp wants Vanessa Paradis back, according to a tabloid report. Gossip Cop looked into the allegation, and we can now reveal what we've learned.

The story in question can be found in the National Enquirer, which blares in its current edition, "Devastated Depp Wants Vanessa Back!" According to the supermarket tabloid, the actor is "reeling" and "begging" his ex to "come back to him." A so-called "insider" is quoted as saying, "Johnny now realizes that what he had with Vanessa was one of a kind."

"She's about the only person who can keep him in check, and the only person he really listens to," the supposed source claims to the gossip magazine. The outlet also relies on the former wife of Depp's nephew as proof a reunion could be in the offing. The woman asserts, "Vanessa has been there for Johnny... She'll always stand by him. I'm rooting for them to get back together."

But that doesn't mean they will. In fact, our own source close to Depp exclusively tells Gossip Cop the story and its claims are "ridiculous." Depp and Paradis have both moved on. While they remain connected through their two children, we are assured the movie star is not "begging" Paradis to reunite romantically, nor has he "gone crawling back" to her.

It seems the outlet has forgotten the article it peddled last fall about Depp dating Angelina Jolie. The publication maintained a relationship was brewing between The Tourist co-stars. Gossip Cop, however, confirmed they weren't even in contact, and time proved us right. Tellingly, that made-up romance isn't mentioned in this tale.

Nor does this latest piece acknowledge that just weeks ago, the tabloid grossly predicted Depp would die soon. This is a magazine that builds its issues around sensationalism, rarely filling its pages with legitimate, accurate, real news. And those stories, like this new one, typically involve specious "insiders" and random, unknowledgeable relatives who have no business commenting in the first place. That's exactly why Gossip Cop was told this article about Depp and Paradis is "ridiculous."

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
