Is Johnny Depp really ditching America for a new life in Russia? One of the tabloids claims the actor is looking for a fresh start overseas. Gossip Cop looked into the situation and we’ve learned the truth.

“Pirate Johnny Weighs Anchor!” reads a headline in the latest issue of the Globe. An alleged insider tells the magazine, “He’s feeling totally cursed right now, like everywhere he goes there’s a hundred-grand bill to pay and nothing’s sustainable unless he sells another property. Johnny’s concluded he’s just not cut out for life in America anymore and it makes a heap of sense to head somewhere like Russia or another part of Europe, where he can get away from his money troubles and make a brand-new start.”

Depp has in fact had several legal battle over the past couple of years. He filed two separate $50 million lawsuits – one against ex-wife Amber Heard for defamation – and another against his former layers, who he accused of malpractice. The actor has since settled the lawsuit against his former legal team, but his battle with Heard is still ongoing. “This whole business with Amber has left him in a shell emotionally, and he’s utterly fed up,” adds the seemingly phony source.

In addition to being untrue, the tabloid’s report makes very little sense. Depp is the one who filed the $50 million defamation suit against Heard. Why would the actor flee the country when he’s the one who sought litigation? If Depp was was so “utterly fed up,” he could just drop his lawsuit. The actor doesn’t need to flee the country to escape the legal battle.

Meanwhile, Depp already has a large real estate portfolio, which includes several homes outside of the U.S. The actor owns homes in France and the Bahamas, so he can get out of America at any time. The Globe conveniently fails to mention any of Depp’s properties outside of Los Angeles.

Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the actor, who confirms the magazine’s report is fabricated. That’s not too surprising. Just last month, the tabloid falsely claimed Depp’s friends feared he’d be dead by Christmas. The outlet insisted the actor was “drinking out of control” amid his court battle with Heard. This latest article doesn’t indicate that the actor is in poor health. As opposed to dying, he’s now fleeing the country. Neither premise is remotely true.

Last year, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for alleging Depp was suffering a “deadly liver crisis.” He wasn’t. At the very least, the tabloid has taken a break from attacking the actor’s health. The outlet, however, has no more insight into his living situation.
