A tabloid claims Johnny Depp is losing all of his Hollywood friends following the abuse allegations made by ex-wife Amber Heard. The story isn’t accurate. Gossip Cop can correct it.
According to Star, most of Depp’s colleagues in the entertainment industry are siding with Heard, who accused the actor of physically assaulting her throughout their two-year marriage. The movie star has vehemently denied the allegations and filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife last month. The magazine, however, says Depp’s legal response isn’t doing him any favors in Hollywood circles.
“If Johnny were smart, he’d be wise to let this one go,” a supposed source tells the outlet. “Amber’s got a ton of supporters and well-wishers, especially among the younger Hollywood crowd. You won’t find many women, especially under 40, sticking up for Johnny.” The outlet further contends that Depp’s celebrity friends are “turning their backs” on the actor and it may result in him “being blacklisted in Hollywood for good.”
The tabloid’s take on the situation isn’t accurate. It’s fair to say the abuse allegations against Depp and his subsequent legal battle have complicated his standing in Hollywood. In fact, the actor claims in his defamation lawsuit that Heard’s allegations cost him a role in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot. However, the idea that Depp’s own friends have ditched him isn’t remotely true.
One of Depp’s biggest supporters has been his Hollywood Vampires bandmate Alice Cooper, who told Billboard magazine last month, “All the stuff you heard last year about Johnny, 99 percent was just bull.” Meanwhile, Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling defended Depp’s casting in last year’s spinoff Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. At the film’s premiere a few months back, Depp and his co-star Jude Law were photographed warmly embracing each other on the red carpet. Other stars who’ve come to the actor’s defense in various ways have included Winona Ryder, Benicio del Toro, as well as Depp’s ex, Vanessa Paradis, and his first wife, Lori Anne Allison.
Gossip Cop also checked in with a source close to Depp, who wasn’t able to speak on the record, but tells us the tabloid’s report is “false.” We’re assured the actor’s famous friends aren’t dumping him and there’s nothing to indicate that’s the case. Star is the same outlet that we busted in 2017 for falsely claiming Depp was dating Angelina Jolie. It’s fairly clear the tabloid’s “sources” have zero insight into the actor’s personal life and what’s going on behind the scenes of his legal battle.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
