A new HollywoodLife story about John Stamos being “inspired by George Clooney” to become a dad for the first time was made-up. This phony article was seemingly concocted to capitalize on the news about the actor’s recent engagement, but Gossip Cop is assured no one in his circle spoke to the site.

Stamos revealed on Instagram on Monday that he proposed to girlfriend Caitlin McHugh during a trip to Disneyland. Now HollywoodLies, as it’s known, claims to have “exclusively” learned all about the actor’s plans to start a family with his new fiancee. The webloid notes that Clooney became a first-time father at 56 when he welcomed twins earlier this year, and now the site contends that the 54-year-old Stamos wants to follow in the fellow actor’s footsteps.

A so-called “source” tells the webloid, “John is eager to finally have a family after being inspired by George Clooney’s late-life happiness and fatherhood.” The outlet’s seemingly manufactured insider adds, “At the age of 54, John made the decision to get married again… After watching George pull off a similar life change at almost the same age, John feels being a dad could be for him too.”

Of course, the untrustworthy site has a habit of taking stories circulating in the news and writing an allegedly “exclusive” follow-up based on information from supposed and untraceable sources. Often the claims are either so personal it’s difficult to fact-check, though we do, or they’re tied to an unrelated third-party like Clooney. In any event, Gossip Cop looked into the blog’s report and Stamos’s rep exclusively assures us no one in his camp spoke to the outlet.

Should Stamos decide to start a family, it won’t be because Clooney inspired him to do so. It will be because he and McHugh want children. In fact, Stamos said having children with McHugh is “certainly the plan.” Gossip Cop hopes HollywoodLies will be “inspired” one day to stop making up stories about celebrities.
