John Legend performed “City Of Stars” and “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” from La La Land at Sunday’s 2017 Oscars. Watch below!

As Gossip Cop reported, last month it was announced both songs were nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards. In the movie, which scored a record 14 nominations overall, the tracks are sung by stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. But both apparently declined to perform on the Oscars stage. Instead, it was announced that their co-star Legend would sing both.

The performer, who is also a blossoming actor, had a supporting role in the movie as a band frontman who works with Gosling’s character. In the film, Legend sings the uptempo “Start A Fire,” which he co-wrote. But all the awards attention has gone to “City Of Stars” and “Audition,” which were written by Justin Hurwitz, Benj Pasek, and Justin Paul. And it’s those three who will get the Oscars if either song wins the award, as the honor is traditionally given to the composer and lyricist, not the performers.

As for Legend, he’s already an Oscar winner and no stranger to the Academy Awards stage. He and Common performed “Glory,” from the movie Selma, at the 2015 show, the same night they won Best Original Song. The inspirational track also earned them a Grammy and Golden Globe.
