John Cena SNL

John Cena opened his “SNL” monologue by having cast members trying to fight the professional wrestler. He had to contend with Bobby Moynihan, Leslie Jones and Kenan Thompson. See the video below of Cena’s “Saturday Night Live” monologue.

This marks Cena’s debut as the host of “Saturday Night Live.” But it’s not the first time he’s appeared on the sketch comedy series. Back in March 2009, when Tracy Morgan returned to “Saturday Night Live” to host the show, Cena played a guard in front of Studio 8H who got punched in the face by Morgan.

While mostly known for being a wrestling champ, Cena is also a rapper and actor, who has appeared on several TV shows, such as “Parks & Recreation,” and a handful of comedic movies, including Trainwreck and Sisters, starring “Saturday Night Live” alums Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. He also brings some hosting experience to “SNL.” Cena currently hosts the FOX reality show “American Grit,” and in July he hosted both the ESPYs and Teen Choice Awards.

Cena’s appearance on “Saturday Night Live” comes in advance of the release in March of The Wall, in which he and Aaron Taylor-Johnson star as two American soldiers under fire from an Iraqi sniper. The first trailer for the Doug Liman-directed film came out on Thursday. Just hours before hosting “Saturday Night Live,” an excited Cena tweeted, Well… not much else left to do. @nbcsnl #CenaOnSNL.” Check out the video below of Cena’s “SNL” monologue in which he wrestled cast members of the sketch comedy show.
