Jimmy Kimmel opened the 2017 Oscars on Sunday with a hilarious monologue. Watch below!

Kicking off the 89th annual Academy Awards, Kimmel joked, “Oh, good, I got a sitting ovation. Awesome!” The host revealed it was probably his first and last time at the Oscars, and noted he was being watched in “225 countries that now hate us.” He then talked about uniting the country, and suggested everyone reach out to someone for a “positive conversation” to “make American great again.”

And so, he said he wanted to bury the hatchet with frenemy Matt Damon, but then called him a “dumbass.” The host went on to say, “I want to say thank you to President Trump. Remember last year when it seemed like the Oscars was racist?” Jokes about La La Land, Manchester By The Sea, and Moonlight followed, but that last quip, about a “happy ending,” didn’t go over well. Kimmel later told France’s Isabelle Huppert, “I’m glad Homeland Security let you in tonight.” Kimmel also had the star-studded audience give a standing ovation to the “overrated” Meryl Streep, asking if she was wearing an “Ivanka.”

It was announced in December that Kimmel would emcee Hollywood’s biggest night. The news came just a couple of months after his successful gig hosting the Emmy Awards. Over the years, the comedian has also hosted the American Music Awards multiple times, as well as the ESPY Awards and the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. And, of course, he’s hosted “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on weeknights since 2003.

For a number of years, Kimmel has also hosted the “Jimmy Kimmel Live: After The Oscars Special” that airs on ABC following the Academy Awards. The 2015 installment even won a Writers Guild of America Award. But since he’s presiding over this year’s ceremony, ABC will instead broadcast “Live From Hollywood: The After Party With Anthony Anderson.”

As host of the Oscars, Kimmel is following in the footsteps of Chris Rock (2016), Neil Patrick Harris (2015), and Ellen DeGeneres (2014). DeGeneres even gave Kimmel a makeover days before the show. Check out full video of his Academy Awards opening monologue below!
