Jimmy Kimmel Dennis Hastert Video

Jimmy Kimmel blasted Dennis Hastert on Wednesday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” hours after the disgraced politician’s attorneys begged for a lenient sentence in his banking fraud case, which stemmed from trying to cover up child molestation. Check out the video below.

It was uncovered that the former Speaker of the House was illegally structuring bank transactions in order to keep his sexual abuse a secret by paying off one of his victims. While the judge, who sentenced Hastert to 15 months in prison, called him a “serial child molester,” his attorneys downplayed the situation. That did not sit well with Kimmel, nor did the letters of support sent in on Hastert’s behalf.

“From 1999 to 2007, he was Speaker of the House, during which time he called on lawmakers to, quote, ‘Put repeated child molesters in a jail for the rest of their lives.’ Today he got 15 months for that,” the host pointed out.

Kimmel continued, “He was also the guy who led the impeachment of Bill Clinton over the Monica Lewinsky scandal — presumably because it was consensual sex with an adult woman. And I think there should be a rule any time a politician pontificates about someone else’s private life, a squad of investigators is immediately sent to his house to investigate what he is up to, because they always seem to be up to [something].”

“But this may the most shocking part,” Kimmel went on. “A number of individuals, 60 people, wrote letters to the judge on Dennis Hastert’s behalf to help reduce his sentence, and it wasn’t just family members. One of them was the former House Majority Leader, Tom DeLay.” Kimmel quoted from DeLay’s letter, which included lines like, “We all have our flaws, but Dennis Hastert has very few.”

Kimmel cracked, “Yeah, just one really. It’s a big one. Other than that, great guy… He abused at least five boys when he was their wrestling coach!” Watch the full take-down below.
