Jessica Simpson is not making a “singing comeback” on sister Ashlee Simpson’s reality show, despite reports. Gossip Cop can bust the false stories. Though Ashlee’s E! series will focus on her family life, Jessica is not using the program to stage her own return to the spotlight.

But sister outlets the National Enquirer and RadarOnline are running nearly identical stories this week, claiming Jessica plans to return to both music and television through “Ashlee + Evan,” which documents Ashlee’s personal and professional lives with husband Evan Ross. The tabloid quotes a so-called “spy” and the website refers to a “source” as saying, “Jessica’s been enjoying life out of the limelight, but she’s ready to test the waters on her sister’s show.”

The articles specifically allege Jessica is “writing music and working on a song for the show’s finale,” but maintain the siblings disagreed on the path the older Simpson should take. “Jessica wanted to sing one of Diana’s iconic songs, but Ashlee refused to ask her. She thought it was insulting,” both purported tipsters claim, referring to Ashlee’s mother-in-law, Diana Ross.

And while the sister publications claim that if Jessica’s “performance on Ashlee’s show is a hit, she’s considering relaunching her music career,” they also assert that “those close to the spacey blonde wonder if she can pull it off.” The supposed snitches quoted in both stories contend, “Ashlee and Jessica’s friends worry because Jessica is always a bit off and awkward, like she’s in a daze.”

Curiously, though, the final quotes differ slightly: In the National Enquirer, the last lines are, “Ashlee is all for Jessica performing on her show. But she won’t hesitate cutting Jessica if she comes across not looking her best.” Meanwhile, on RadarOnline, the statements are, “Ashlee is all for Jessica performing on her show. But she won’t hesitate to cut Jessica off if she doesn’t sing and look her best.”

It should be readily apparent to readers that this “spy” and “snitch” are one and the same, and may not even exist. It seems the magazine and its sister website, which share a staff, simply jointly concocted this narrative. But it’s “not true,” a rep for Jessica exclusively tells Gossip Cop on the record. The singer-turned-designer has no intention of using “Ashlee + Evan” for her own TV/music comeback.

In fact, last month Jessica did an interview in which she expressed shock over her sister’s reality show, and questioned why she would “want everything to be out there.” Jessica, of course, was speaking from experience, having previously starred on “Newlyweds” with then-husband, Nick Lachey. When asked about making her own reality return, Jessica exclaimed, “Oh, gosh no.”

That said, she did confirm she’ll be on some episodes “toward the end,” and is working on her own music again. But she’s not involved with “Ashlee + Evan” the way the outlets are claiming. “It’s definitely their journey together,” Jessica said of her sister and brother-in-law.
