Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson never left Hollywood for San Francisco, despite a report from exactly one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop noted Simpson and her husband were staying put in Los Angeles, and now 365 days later, we're still right. The couple and their kids didn't move up north.
On this day 12 months ago, OK! maintained Johnson and Simpson were looking to raise their two kids, Maxwell and Ace, in the Bay area, at least part-time. To make its story sound credible, the tabloid quoted a so-called "source" as saying, "San Fran's one of their favorite places on earth." The alleged insider added they were looking for a home there for a "change of pace," and if nothing else, it would be a fun place for weekends and summer vacations.
The supposed "source" claimed they were looking for a house "in the $15 or $20 million range, with a garden and a pool." Since Simpson is a successful fashion mogul with a billion-dollar business, saying she's looking for an expensive home with a garden and a pool is not exactly a stretch. Regardless, a mutual friend of Gossip Cop and Simpson assured us at the time that the story about her leaving L.A. for San Francisco was totally untrue. It was false then and, of course, remains so to this day.
Back in 2013, Simpson bought Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne's mansion in the Los Angeles suburb of Hidden Hills for $11.5 million. She's lived in that exact same home for the past five years. Just three weeks ago, Simpson posted an Instagram video of her husband and Ace playing in the pool of their home. Clearly, they enjoy spending the summer in L.A. and Simpson has not left Hollywood for San Francisco.
The tabloid is often wrong about the entertainer and fashion mogul. In 2017, for example, it falsely reported Simpson was pregnant with her third child. A good 14 months have passed since Gossip Cop busted the claim and clearly that was 100 percent untrue.
After that flub, the publication ran a story about how Simpson was a "stage mom from hell," who's trying to turn her two children into stars. According to that article, Maxwell was being groomed to become a movie star, while Ace is going to follow in his dad's footsteps and become a professional athlete. Having kids in the limelight is the "last thing she wants," a friend of Simpson's told Gossip Cop. As noted above, Simpson never moved to San Francisco from L.A. and a year later, maybe the tabloid should "move" on to better sources for her.
Gossip Cop occasionally looks back at articles from a year ago to prove who's right and who's wrong. Tabloids often bank on the public not remembering their errors and seemingly think they can report falsehoods without any accountability. We're not here to wave our finger at outlets, but instead to remind visitors that trust is something that's earned over time. While our record is pretty darn strong, though admittedly not perfect, Gossip Cop works hard every day to both print the truth and gain your trust.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
