Jessa Duggar says she’s “forgiven” her brother Josh Duggar for his transgressions, which include molesting her as a child.

As Gossip Cop reported, it was revealed last year that Josh had inappropriately touched Jessa, their sister Jill, and other underage girls when he was a teen. While the “19 Kids and Counting” family insisted they had dealt with the disturbing issue years ago, another scandal later erupted. Last summer, Josh confessed to cheating on his wife, Anna, and being addicted to pornography. He’s been in rehab treatment ever since.

But now with the family moving on with the TLC series “Jill And Jessa: Counting On,” some are speaking out about the traumatic events. “I definitely have forgiven Josh,” Jessa tells People. “It is a process, though, that you have to work through in your heart. And trust is not quickly rebuilt. It is something that takes a while. We love him very much, though, and we are very hopeful for the future.”

Sister Joy, who will also appear on the spinoff show, similarly says, “I have forgiven him and I feel that, but the trust is not there.” Jessa’s husband Ben Seewald further tells the magazine, “I love Josh and I want the best for him. There are a lot of people who have been hurt in this situation. I want to look for ways to help heal the situation for Josh and for Anna and their kids especially.”

It seems to be a sentiment the whole family shares. In honor of Josh’s birthday last week, parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar said in a Facebook post, “The heartache of the past year cannot surpass the joy 28 years ago on this day when we first became parents. We love you Josh and believe your best days can be ahead of you. We continue to pray for you every day.”
