A tabloid claims Jeremy Renner wants to date Avengers co-star Scarlett Johansson. The story is completely made-up. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
"Jeremy's Hot For ScarJo!" reads a headline in the latest issue of OK! The accompanying article says Renner has developed feelings for his co-star after seven years of making Marvel movies together. "It's obvious to anyone that Jeremy is smitten with Scarlett," a so-called "source" tells the magazine. "They make each other laugh and are so close - they feel like they can talk about anything."
The alleged insider goes on to say Johansson is aware that her co-star has "been crushing on her," but she "sees him as more of a brother than a potential love interest." The actress has also been dating "Saturday Night Live" star Colin Jost for two years, prompting the "source" to say, "Jeremy isn't the type to go in and try to steal a girl away from another relationship, but he's crazy about her. He's holding out hope that somewhere down the road things may work out between them."
The magazine's story simply isn't true. Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who wasn't able to speak on the record, but assures us the outlet's report is fabricated. We're told Renner and Johansson are close friends, but the actor isn't pining for his co-star romantically. The tabloid's tale of unrequited love is a work of fiction.
It's worth noting, Gossip Cop busted OK!'s sister outlet, Star, for falsely claiming in March that Renner was developing a romance with Lady Gaga, but the singer was torn between him and Bradley Cooper. This latest article makes no mention of that phony scenario or the actor's nonexistent fling with the singer.
This also wouldn't be the first time we've had to debunk a bogus story surrounding Johansson's off-screen relationship with an Avengers co-star. Last month, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for alleging the actress was tired of hanging out with her Avengers: Endgame co-stars, specifically, Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd and Chris Hemsworth. In reality, Johansson shares a close bond with her castmates and had a blast promoting the film with them.
For further proof that OK! doesn't have insight into the actress's personal life, look no further than an December 2018 article claiming Johansson and Jost had gotten engaged over Thanksgiving. As time has proven, no engagement took place. Back in 2017, Gossip Cop called out the magazine for wrongly reporting that Johansson was dating chef Bobby Flay. This latest article involving Renner crushing on the actress is more fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
