Are Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez signing a $760 million prenup? That’s the latest rumor from the tabloids. Here’s what Gossip Cop has learned.
The claim comes from In Touch, which asserts in its new issue that Lopez and Rodriguez have “fallen so hard,” they’re “already talking about getting married.” But, says the gossip magazine, “before the couple walks down the aisle, they want to make sure their fortunes are protected.” And that’s where the alleged prenup comes in.
As for the whopping $760 million figure, that’s based on the publication’s assumption that Lopez is “worth around $360 million,” while Rodriguez is “worth an estimated $400 million.” Fortunately, the superstars are said to be “on the same page” when it comes to ironing out financial details. A so-called “insider” tells the outlet, “Jennifer not only wants to protect her money, she wants to make sure her kids are taken care of.”
“Alex,” continues the supposed source, “is always on top of his finances, so a prenup is very important to him, too.” The tabloid further maintains a wedding could take place by the end of 2017. “[Lopez] doesn’t want to wait, because she knows he’s her soul mate,” contends the publication’s purported tipster.
Gossip Cop, however, can reveal what’s really going on after having fully investigated the claims. Last week, Us Weekly inaccurately claimed Lopez and Rodriguez were “talking marriage.” Now, In Touch is seizing on that false assumption, and adding another layer by alleging there’s a prenuptial agreement in the works. But when Gossip Cop looked into the original report, one of our impeccable sources scoffed at the idea of the relatively new couple marrying so soon, even asking, “Is this from April Fools’ [Day]?”
That’s how laughably premature the notion was, which makes this alleged $760 million prenup story fairly premature, too. Still, Gossip Cop reached out to a source close to the situation, who called the entire story “ridiculous.” Granted, In Touch already has a credibility problem here. We previously busted the magazine for wrongly claiming Rodriguez pursued Lopez for years and for falsely alleging Rodriguez was forcing Lopez to wear sexy clothes. While it’s certainly plausible the high net worth couple would work out a prenup should they one day decide to marry, Gossip Cop can confirm it’s just not happening right now.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
