Jennifer Lopez is pregnant, according to a tabloid with a history of publishing false stories about her and Alex Rodriguez. Its latest claim is that the couple is expecting a child together. Gossip Cop, however, can debunk it.
Before we get into the specifics of this latest report, it's important to keep in mind what's come before it. Last September, OK! announced Lopez and Rodriguez were planning a "lavish wedding" to take place in the Hamptons "either early next year or by next summer." After Gossip Cop busted those claims, the magazine offered a new narrative in October, contending Lopez and Rodriguez were going to have a wedding in Miami on New Year's Eve. Then, after we debunked that, the outlet alleged Lopez wanted to take a break from her relationship with Rodriguez in November.
Suffice it to say, the stars never tied the knot, but they're still very much a couple and haven't broken up. In other words, the publication has been completely wrong with its reporting to date. And now the tabloid wants readers to believe it has insight on Lopez and Rodriguez having a baby. "Rumor has it that a mini J.Rod may be on the way," the magazine claims in its new issue. On top of the credibility problems the outlet already has, the use of the phrase "rumor has it" shows that it has no firsthand knowledge or confirmation of a pregnancy.
Still, the publication alleges the singer and the athlete have been "talking about adding a baby to their blended family," and asserts Lopez's "unusually baggy wardrobe is raising plenty of eyebrows." The tabloid specifically points to a snapshot of the performer in a sweater on May 11, claiming the clothes and her purse "obscured her belly." A so-called "source" is also quoted as saying, "Jennifer was never opposed to getting pregnant the natural way, but at her age [almost 49], she wasn't sure it would happen. If it does, they'd be over the moon."
Adds the supposed snitch, "They're in this for the long haul." Yet the magazine makes no mention of the weddings that never happened, or the couple taking a break. And the contention that Lopez may be pregnant because she's sporting an "unusually baggy wardrobe" is provably false. Less than two weeks ago, she wore a bikini top and bared her stomach in a video Rodriguez shared on Instagram. And just two days ago, the Daily Mail pointed out that Lopez showed off her "taut tummy" by wearing a sports bra as she walked in New York.
These recent photos clearly show she doesn't have a baby bump, and it's ridiculous OK! is trying to use a picture from nearly two months ago to claim otherwise. Gossip Cop also checked in with one of our Lopez contacts, who tells us on background that it's "unlikely" she and Rodriguez are expecting. Lopez has expressed a desire to have more kids in the past, so one day expanding her family isn't out of the question. But fans shouldn't expect this tabloid, with its poor track record and flawed stories, to break the news.
Gossip Cop believes there to be elements of truth, but the story is ultimately misleading.
