It was announced in late June that Lopez was added to the annual July Fourth special, which combines a star-studded concert with a dazzling fireworks show. This year’s lineup included Sheryl Crow, Charlie Puth, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley and Hailee Steinfeld. The artists typically pre-tape their performances, which are then edited together as anticipation builds for the traditional fireworks display over Brooklyn’s East River.

Lopez filmed her set on June 30 at Hunter’s Point South Park. Bizarrely, paparazzi photos taken during the singer’s rehearsal led MediaTakeOut to ridiculously claim Lopez’s butt is fake. In actuality, the webloid was just sensationalizing pictures that showed nothing more than her underwear lining underneath her tight leggings. Lopez, of course, went full glam for the official taping, working multiple outfits into her mini-show.

When NBC broadcast its “spectacular,” Lopez kicked things off with “Jenny From The Block.” Later in the show, the network aired her first-ever performance of “Ni Tu Ni Yo” as the final musical offering before the fireworks. This marked the first time fans even heard the song, which became available for download and streaming online immediately after Lopez’s performance was showcased. The track is the lead single off her upcoming Spanish-language album, which is expected to be released this summer.

It’s no surprise Lopez was chosen to take part in NBC’s Independence Day special. Over the last few years, she’s become one of the network’s key players. In addition to starring on “Shades Of Blue,” she produces and judges “World Of Dance,” which was just renewed for a second season. And Lopez is still slated to star in a live TV production of “Bye Bye Birdie,” although NBC has pushed the project from 2017 to 2018.
