Are Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow in a "wedding showdown"? A report claims the stars are feuding because they supposedly both want to get married in the same place, with the same guests, around the same time. Gossip Cop, however, can debunk the story.
NW alleges Paltrow is Lopez's "arch nemesis," and claims she is "green with envy" over Paltrow's upcoming wedding — "and the feeling is mutual." Pointing out that both women have residences in the Hamptons, the tabloid contends they each "want to wed there around mid-August, early September," and Lopez is said to be "freaked out" and "threatened" that Paltrow's nuptials will "overshadow" hers. A so-called "source" is quoted as saying, "They are both highly conscious they're inviting a lot of the same guests."
The magazine acknowledges that they should be able to reach a "compromise," but claims speaking with one another won't happen because Lopez and Paltrow have "always" had a "bit of a rivalry between them" because they both had relationships with Ben Affleck. For Paltrow's wedding, the untraceable "source" asserts she "wants it to be the ultimate celebrity wedding and only the best will do." As for Lopez, the outlet's alleged tipster maintains, "Jennifer considers herself one of Hollywood's biggest stars and she sees her and [boyfriend Alex Rodriguez] as a bigger couple than Gwyneth and [fiance Brad Falchuk]."
"Now that they both want to get married around the same time in the same place, they're going to do whatever they can to make sure theirs is the wedding of the year," claims the purported snitch. It all leads the publication to declare, "Let the battle of the brides begin!" But there is no battle whatsoever.
For starters, Lopez doesn't actually have any current plans to tie the knot. While the tabloid claims she's been "flashing her rumored engagement ring on social media," Gossip Cop busted that speculation about Rodriguez and Lopez being engaged nearly a month ago. Other outlets also confirmed there was no engagement. Furthermore, in a "GMA" interview last month, Lopez was asked about marrying Rodriguez, and stated, "We're gonna take our time and we're going to do things at our own pace." So it makes little sense to now allege she's "determined to outdo" Paltrow.
And while the magazine has given the impression that Paltrow is being a control freak when it comes to organizing her own wedding, the opposite is actually true. In June, Paltrow admitted she's "not that involved" in planning her wedding, confessing, "I'm probably the least bridezilla person probably to a fault that has ever come across my wedding planner's office doors." Us Weekly further reported that the main way in which Paltrow is prepping for her wedding is by "letting her wedding planner run with it." Nothing has been said about competing with Lopez.
Additionally, whereas the outlet relies on a single anonymous "source" for this narrative, Paltrow's spokesperson tells us on the record that the story is "fabricated." And while a rep for Lopez declined to officially comment, a separate confidante calls the tale "stupid, especially since Jen isn't engaged." There's one more reason readers shouldn't believe this storyline.
It's coming from the same publication that previously claimed in May that Lopez was engaged to Rodriguez and would be marrying in a July Fourth wedding. Well, Independence Day came and went without an engagement or a wedding. Unsurprisingly, NW makes no mention of being wrong about that in this latest piece about an August or September wedding. The magazine has proven it isn't credible, and the points above demonstrate why the new claims aren't trustworthy or accurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
