Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez did not have a wedding over the summer that featured performances by Stevie Wonder and Elton John, despite a report from exactly one year ago today that insisted they were getting married in Italy in front of a number of celebrities. Gossip Cop noted at the time the story was a work of fiction, and 12 months later it's clear that article was completely untrue. To date, not only aren't they married, but Rodriguez hasn't even proposed to Lopez.
On February 26, 2018, Woman's Day published a piece that asserted Lopez and Rodriguez had rented out an entire hotel in Ravello on Italy's Almalfi Coast, where they were going to exchange vows in July 2018. The tabloid claimed to have a number of details, including how the wedding was going to cost millions, feature performances by Wonder and John, and draw several other celebrity guests. Among those mentioned as attendees were Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, and Cameron Diaz.
Interestingly, while the magazine didn't know when in July the supposed nuptials were going to take place, it swore up and down Rodriguez and Lopez had reserved all 50 rooms at the historic Belmond Hotel Caruso. A full 365 days ago, Gossip Cop checked the hotel's website and saw multiple rooms were available throughout the month of July. We were also told on background by an employee that Lopez and Rodriguez were not slated to wed there. Additionally, sources in both the singer and former baseball player's camps confirmed the tabloid's tale was bogus.
What's more, we were also told at the time they were not engaged, despite the publication alleging in that article how Rodriguez popped the question over New Year's. Not surprisingly, the outlet couldn't finish any specifics about how or where he supposedly asked Lopez to marry him. And, as noted above, they still aren't engaged. In fact, just a couple of months ago, Lopez said she understood the wedding speculation about her and Rodriguez, adding how she and her boyfriend are "happy" together, but getting married isn't happening soon.
Gossip Cop is not surprised by the falsity of the report since Woman's Day has been repeatedly wrong about Rodriguez. Three months after that tabloid contended they were getting married, the publication completely ignored its error-filled article and published another story that maintained Rodriguez couldn't afford to buy Lopez an engagement ring and propose. Not only did his rep shoot down that narrative, but it's also been widely noted Rodriguez's net worth is pegged at around $300 million.
And just last month, Gossip Cop busted the same unreliable magazine when it falsely claimed Lopez and Rodriguez were just days away from a split. That too was nonsense. On Sunday night, a very much together Lopez and Rodriguez looked glamorous and in love at the Oscars and Vanity Fair after-party (see above).
The reason we look back at articles a year later, like the one about Lopez and Rodriguez having a summer wedding in Italy, is to help readers figure out which outlets they can and cannot trust for accurate information. That magazine has frequently ran untrue stories about the couple and whether or not they're getting married. Pardon Gossip Cop, but we may be a tad bit skeptical the next time the publication does a Lopez and Rodriguez report.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
