Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez didn't get married over the summer, despite a report from a year ago claiming the couple was planning a three-day wedding in the Hamptons. Gossip Cop debunked the story 12 months ago. Time has proven it false.
On September 9, 2017, OK! wrongly reported that Lopez and Rodriguez were planning a "lavish wedding" at her Hamptons home that would take place "by next summer." The outlet maintained that the "grand and extravagant" event would last for three days and be attended by various superstars, many of whom would perform music at the ceremony.
Immediately after the story was published this time last year, a mutual pal of ours and the couple exclusively told us there was no wedding in the works. Our source was clearly reliable. It's now 365 days later, and the famous couple isn't even engaged, let alone married.
Gossip Cop even noted when the article first emerged that the magazine was "giving itself a one-year window" for the story to pan out, and if it didn't, the tabloid was "banking on its readers forgetting about its phony story." We didn't forget the phony story, which time has definitively disproven. In recent months, Lopez said she and Rodriguez are taking time with their relationship. Just last month, Rodriguez denied engagement rumors during a "Today" show interview.
Meanwhile, the tabloid also has trouble keeping its bogus stories straight. Last November, just two months after claiming they were tying the knot, OK! said Lopez was "taking a break" from Rodriguez. That clearly never happened either, but it also goes to show how the outlet changes narratives on a whim.
Gossip Cop also busted the tabloid in July for falsely claiming that Lopez was pregnant with Rodriguez's baby. When the article was published, it was said that the singer had already been expecting for two months. But Lopez hasn't grown a baby bump in the time since, as was very evident when she performed at the 2018 MTV VMAs a few weeks ago.
It's worth noting, Lopez and Rodriguez's relationship is going very strong, so it's certainly possible the two will get engaged and married at some point in the future. The gossip media, however, has a habit of trying to speed up that process. Gossip Cop looks back at stories from a year ago to show how tabloids like OK! have very little insight into celebrity romances. That was made very clear when Lopez and Rodriguez didn't walk down the aisle this summer.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
