Are Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez secretly engaged? A new report claims the couple is marrying July Fourth weekend in a $5 million wedding. But Gossip Cop is exclusively told such allegations are untrue.
The contentions come from NW, which features a fake "save the date" invitation in its latest issue (see below). Alongside that phony artwork, the tabloid alleges "whispers have been building" that Lopez and Rodriguez "got engaged on the down-low," and claims they're now "planning on tying the knot in the Hamptons over Fourth of July weekend." A so-called "insider" is quoted as saying, "There's a lot of talk that Alex popped the question in secret, and now they're busy putting together their dream day."
"They've invited all of their friends to a party in the Hamptons for Independence Day... J.Lo has suggested that everyone wears white, but she won't say why and is being very coy about it," claims the supposed source. "People are convinced that it's going to be a surprise wedding," adds the phony snitch. It should be noted that those truly close to Lopez call her "Jennifer," not "J.Lo." In any case, the outlet goes on to assert that invitations have already gone out to Cameron Diaz, Britney Spears and Nicole Kidman.
The publication maintains Lopez and Rodriguez are "sparing no expense to ensure they have the wedding of their dreams," with an "extravagant 'week-long celebration'" that "may cost upwards of $5 million." Alleges the purported tipster, "They've been ready for this for a long time. It's just a case of making it official... [They] can't wait to be able to call each other husband and wife." But that's not what the singer herself has said on the record recently.
Just over a week ago, Lopez put the kibosh on engagement rumors, saying in a Beats 1 interview, "We're good right now. I'm not trying to rush into anything, I've done that before, to no avail." As opposed to planning for the future, which is what this tall tale is all about, the actress-singer stressed, "I like to let things take their natural course." Similarly, in Lopez's Harper's Bazaar interview released in March, she said, "I would love to grow old with somebody in a committed relationship. But I'm not forcing anything right now."
NW is getting way ahead of itself, much like it did in February when the tabloid falsely alleged Lopez and Rodriguez were fighting over a prenup. Notably, this new piece about a secret engagement and July Fourth wedding makes no mention of a prenuptial agreement at all. That's probably because this article was poorly slapped together, just like the previous one. And a while a rep for Lopez declined to comment, a source close to the superstar tells Gossip Cop on background that it's "not true" she and Rodriguez are engaged with a holiday wedding in the works.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
